Hello everyone, my first post,
Im starting a 10G FOWLR system, I have a few questions. Sorry is they are stupid i have only read things i have no hands on expirance in the saltwater part of the hobbie.

This is my plan,

1- 10 UK gallon tank
2- lid and light
3- a big filter for goldfish (took sponges out, just for a water flow)
4- sand
5- 5 kg of fugi live rock
6- salt
7- heater
8- hydrometer
9- stand for tank

I think thats about it. Well my questions are

1- could i keep 3 fujian damsels in the tank.(may change mind)
2- Is all my equipment corret, anything missing.

thats all i can think of at the mo. Thanks very much everyone

1.) 3 fish would be the max. I would recomend a clownfish or a firefish...(So Pretty).

2.) Are you going to be using a skimmer on the tank...and are you going to be using an refugium?

ditch the hydrometer.. get a refractometer. a container to have ro water, heated, mixed, aerated, and ready to go. net. food. tongs. hoses. bucket or 2. and $$$$$.
welcome to the hobbie and RC. this is a money pit.

A refractometer is a device that is used to test the salinity of your water and is far more accurate than a hydrometer. They are more expensive at around $40-50.

Although RO or RO/DI would be the preferred water to use tap water with dechlorinator would work too. The main reason why people stay away from tap is because it can contian excessive amounts of phosphates, heavy metals, etc but it really depends on the individuals tap water.

That is alot of fish for a 10 gallon tank and would cause problems including water problems, as well as territorial disputes. I would go with a single small fish such as a Goby.

I would go without the lid if you can. It will effect gas exchange and it can cause your tank to over heat during the summer. You can always leave the lid up I suppose though.

HI, thanks for the replys,
I can only use tap water, but on the aquaclear dechlorinator lable it says it get rid of heavy metals ect. Is this true?

1- Is 3 fish to many for a 10 gallon tank UK.
2- Can i get a skimmer for the tank? how my ££ will it cost?

I will look for a refractometer,

This is a FW SW tank conversion, i dont think i have but if ive used meds on the tank will it kill live rock and inverts?

thanks

Well christmas is comming up and i thought i would get a new 10 gallon tank for that. I could use the 10 i have now as a QT tank or something like that. will replace the lights with some other ones ect. Any opinions welcome, and critisism welcome 2. still wanna get to know more and will start buying equipment now!

Thanks

Sean
