my house reef (211 g.)

Hey Simon and Iwan

I leave this thread for a few months and have to read almost 60 pages to catch back up .

Good to see the word spreading about your tank Iwan I would say your famous .

Nice Marc - whats your evaluation of prodi so far?

I really don't know where I stand on it. I guess I'm in the "I can't tell the difference" group.

My tank looks great, but I'm not dosing meticulously every 14 days.

I don't see a reduction in nitrates or phophates, but my corals do look great to me.

I continue to have cyano issues, but I'm blaming my own home-made food for that. I think I put in too much Golden Pearls and related stuff in my last batch of food, which is most likely fueling the problem. I've tried to reduce the food I add each day, which probably carries quite a whallop of nutrients.

Hey DST

I'd say he is world famous:D

Hows your zb4 to prodi conversion comming along? Notice any difference between the two yet?

Th eonly difference Iv noticed in 5 weeks of zb4 compared with prodi is that one coral seems to be responding better - but no other noticable changes yet.

Heres a couple of pics from my tank after following the 'Iwan method' for a few months:

I havn't noticed any real differences except maybe a slow down in grown after switching to the prodibio instead of the basic 4 from zeo . This is most likely do to the tank adjusting to the change . I think I over dosed the tank on Vodka and reef booster and lost one acro . I did this to myself and everything is fine now . I am going to start the prodibio strontium and iodine tonight . I still use the start2 and aahc and cv and PI from zeo .

How long have you had that bubble algea ? I started getting it when I started using ZEO ( not saying that it come from their stuff ) just seems it started about the same time .

Funnily enough - the bubble algae has really taken off since using the zb4. I had the odd bubble before - maybe just a coincidence as I burst a couple trying to get them off the LR, but they have grown in both size and quanity.

I dont know if its an urban myth - but 'they' say bubble algae is an indicator of good water quality.

I hope it'll just wane over time....

Cheers

I popped in a few mythrax crabs to battle bubble algae, but apparently they don't eat much! I only have a few the size of yours but I don't want them to get out-of-hand. I have found that I can remove them by hand very carefully but I can't reach most of them.

Yeah I've got them (bubble algae) too and nothing seems to work to get rid of them. I'm not to worried as they are a lot less intrusive then a lot of other algae is...

True, I just ripped out about 20 lbs. of grape caulerpa and I still have about that much more left in the tank.

Seems like that might just feed the bubble algae more. Sorry, I haven't read the whole thread, but do you guys have refugiums?

I dont understand enough ( i'm not sure anyone does) about how zb4 works or what encourages bubble algae to know if there could be a link between the two. Two people's observed association doesnt make a correlation:D Maybe someone who isnt banned 'over there' could find out other's experience?

Yes I have a refugium, but the chateo gradually died out after prodi brought no3 (salifert) and po4 (merck) to 0. So there could be a link there. However as there are no other alage types growing I'm not sure there is an issue in relation to other algaes out competing for nutrients - like I say readings are 0.

Iwan - have you noticed any bubble algae in a nutrient poor environment?

Cheers

Hi Ken

I havent had that experience or heard from anyone who has with prodibio - but the zeo people report that you can get a film of you OD with thier basic 4. Is it a film - like bacteria growth? Do you dose according to the recomendations? Do you dose any other carbon sourse like vodka? Are you dosing AAHC?

I'm thinking it could be an overdose sign like with zeob4 - but if its not - I'm sorry I dont know. How are the corals reacting? Any effects on the skimmate color? Is there a smell of sulphur?

Cheers

Simon
