My JBJ 28gal Nano Build Thread

Two quick questions:
could you show/tell me how you have your radion mounted over your tank?
what setting did you keep your MP10 on when your SPS colonies were smaller, and what setting is it on now?

oh wait here's a few more important questions: How often do you change out the GFO in your reactors? I think you said you run chemipure and purigen. Do you use Chemipure elite? How ofthen do ou change out these if you use them?

Ange, I've been poking around just not doing too much lately. Built a house and moved so my tank grew a bunch of GHA (after the move) that is finally gone.

As far as redoing your tank i know what you mean, i don't have any more room so its just groing out. I'm about to set up a frag system in the basement because of "boredom". That way when i get a big (200+ gallons) i will have plenty of frags going :)

Look forward to seeing pics of the frag tank!! :)

Rofl! I got a trochus snail for free from the LFS when i was buying some filter media and a bucket of salt and MAN that snail can eat some algae. I haven't seen him in the same place twice.

Dang, talk about reviving a post from the ancient past!! Hahah

Check out this video for info on hanging the Radion:

When the colonies were smaller, I used Reefcrest @ 60-70%. Now I use the same at 100% and am thinking about adding another MP10. Large SPS colonies really have a way of blocking flow!!

I change out the GFO / Carbon about once a month. I use to run Chemipure / Purigen in my InTank basket before I added the Phosban reactors, now I use BRS HC GFO and BRS Rox0.8 Carbon. With the reactors on the tank, I only run filter floss in the media basket.

Absolutely beautiful tank. Does your chiller run hot with the door closed and if so how can you tell it's to hot. Are you still running it with the stock Accela powerhead?

Thanks for the info. I can definitely tell when my GFO is exhausted because I get an instant mild algae bloom, almost as if I had switched off the reactors. Somehow I let my stock slack and I'm fresh out of Phosban right now. Guess I've been away at work too much :(

Also, I'm about to post a thread question about my zoa's that I'd really love to have your input on. Thanks again!

The stand does get hotter when the chiller is running, especially since my LFS assembled the back of it upside down (large hole is in the TOP instead of the bottom like it should be). I have a small Vortech fan in the cabinet to keep everything cool when the door is closed. I ran the stock Accela's up until a couple months ago when I accidentally broke the shaft on one. I replaced them with Eheim Compact 1000's.

Yep, agree it's very easy to tell when a change is needed. BRS HC GFO is also good stuff, I switch back and forth between Phosban and that.

Ange- Tank is really coming along. You are getting some great growth out of those corals.

Thanks Jason!! Just noticed you are in Dallas now, you used to be in Austin, right? I was just checking out your new tank a couple weeks back, lookin sweet!

Great looking tank man! It inspired my new tank build, hopefully it will turn out to look like yours one day. Great job!

Couple random cell snaps from tonight:

Thanks for the comments on the new tank, I am pretty excited about it.

I was in Austin the last three years for school, but now back to Dallas.

Looking good as always ange!

Thanks wicked!!

Well, you should have access to much better LFS' back in the BigD! I'll be keeping an eye on your thread.

As for my tank, one of these days I am going to find the time to do another photoshoot with the DSLR and macro lens. Last time was over 6-mo ago so it's long over due. Until then, a couple more crappy cell pics:

Hey ange, I know everything has grown in to the point that you're considering a second MP10, but have you ever had issues with sand stirring up when you ran it 100% in the past?

I'm having a hard time ramping it up where I want it without stirring up stuff and pushing all the sand on one side into big piles which start to burry some of my zoas and things along the bottom. UUUUGGGGHHH!!!

When the tank was just frags the sand would get stirred up with anything over about 60%, though placement of the MP10 is also a key factor in this. Moving it even 1" up or down (or L&R) can make a huge difference. With all the corals blocking flow, I can run it at 100% now without stirring up the sand, assuming placement is correct.

CF-Quad does work.

CF-Quad does work.

2 year old CF-Quad all done with stock lighting. Hope you guys enjoy. I was also successful keeping clams in here.
