That guy is awesome. I want one so bad but I'm just not confident in being able to keep him healthy. One of my LFS has one but I'm sketchy about it. It looks thin too. The owner of another LFS has 2 of the other popular types and he even said that unless you're constantly restocking copepods they'll just fade and die.
I don't know, once my tank is better established I might have to have yet another LFS order me an ORA one and ask if they can quarantine it and show me that it's eating prepared foods. Yup...I think I'm going to have to try that. They're just too cool.
Thanks man! I figure that my tank is well established enough to have a large copepod population, plus my little guy is eating pellets and frozen so you really can't go wrong in that case. I still may add live pods every couple of months to keep the population bolstered, haven't decided yet. I've only had the mandarin a month now (long term success is 6+ mo IMO), and he is getting fatter so I guess the current system is working well.
wow i thought i fed a lot. i have eight different foods at this time but looks like i will be making a trip the LFS. Would you pleas make a video of you feeding. I am always afraid that i feed to much and i am getting some unwanted growth (algae). I went from feeding two times a day to every other day but it does not look as though my tank is as happy when i dint feed as much. I feed more food then can be eaten in 2-3 min and most things i read says thats to much. Plus what ever is blown in to the rocks. I feel a video would help me see how to adjust for my feedings, as to how much to feed at one time. thanks so much, and thanks for such a quick reply to my other question.
Algae is normal without nutrient control like skimmer and GFO. Although I feed often and a variety, I typically only feed what can be consumed in about 1-2min. So small and often is key. I'll try to snag a vid, but don't know that you will learn much from it.
Doesn't your flame angel eat your corals? I'd love to get one, but everything I read says don't do ti.
It's a coral beauty, and honestly the only coral I ever saw it nip at was a leather tree coral. Tons of SPS in my tank and no issues. Clams? Oh yeah, that little bugger goes through fits where he will nip at clam mantles, but they normally are only short stints (<1-wk) and months between them so no real harm comes of it. He is also very aggressive towards other fish. But, even though it's a gamble and he causes trouble on occasion, I love angels (the way they look, color, behavior, activity, etc) and would never have a tank without one.
Yoshi looks AWESOME! Man, his color really pops!
Thanks bro, agree he is a cool little cat! Definitely better now that he is out in the open all the time. And it's weird (but good), for a peaceful fish none of my more aggressives ever mess with him.
What is Mo? How many fish do you have? I was told the same about Angels do you have any trouble with eating corals or aggression? I wanted to get a flame or bicolor angel.
Mo is a flame hawk. I had 7 until a couple days ago when my royal gramma decided to try carpet surfing..

Still considering what other fish to add, I think I will probably end up with 7-8 in the tank.
As I said above, I say go for the angel. If you get a nasty one you can always catch it and swap, but it's a great addition to any tank IMO.
