My journey using Chloroquine Phosphate begins...

I'm fairly convinced the fuzzy red film is some sort of cyano or related bacteria species. I did a water change this evening and siphoned a bunch of it off the rocks. It came off quickly in the same manner that cyano would.

Has anyone used Chemiclean (Erythromycin) together with CP? I'm thinking of treating my QT with it

I am curious about this as well. I've always had a bit of cyano in my DT, but based on Dr X's experience it sounds like I'm in for a considerable outbreak long-term.

Day 2. Fish look pretty good, everyone eating. Interesting, anemones, shrimp and brittle stars still alive, though not looking too good. Added an addition 2g of CP to counteract the 1 hour of UV yesterday. Fairly arbitrary decision but I figure given those inverts aren't dead, the concentration can't be close to toxic. Decided to run skimmer at a very low level to oxygenate water. Not enough to push anything into cup or even up cone... I also stirred sand up in sump to ensure medicine gets to every little corner. Will do the same tomorrow with the DT... assume its not really necessary but can't hurt...

On board for this CP treatment. First time running my tank fallow and running a QT. Hope it pays off. Took 3 hours to catch everyone last night and get them into the QT.
Currently on day 1 of 72 for fallow period. I will try to document my time using CP as well as lots of people are. Will give them about a week in QT before starting the treatment.

Thanks to the OP for discovering the use of CP. As unsure/nervous as i am about moving my fish and treating them, this CP seems to be the easiest and least harmful way to clear our fish of the ever so dreaded ICH.

To be fair, it is alprazo who "pioneered" the reintroduction of CP on this site. If you go back and look at some of the older threads, he was urging folks to use CP long before this thread became popular.

I do have a fish trap... I've used it many times... i've never seen a shrimp go near it!

Day 3, everything seems to be going well... very few signs of ich left, just a few dots on the tail of single fish, which may not even be ich, who knows.

No appetite suppression noticed. My declivis butterfly and yellow tang still not eating, but they had the ich pretty bad and had stopped eating many days before i started treatment.

rock and mini-max anemones.... and shrimp... all still alive....

added an additional 1.75 grams cp this evening. that completes the make up for having run the uv.... don't plan on adding any more cp other than in water changes, which i hope to keep to a minimum. someone else had posted that skimmer didn't seem to make a difference so i am going to hope that's true as i'm running mine on lowest level and even there it is pushing up waste onto sides of cone...

I have a Starki Damsel in my 20 gal. QT for about 10 days now. Treated with first dose of Prazi two days after introduction to QT. Was doing really well up until the very end of the first week of Prazi. The Starki started to scratch on PVC occasionally. No visible spots anywhere. It's mouth is opening and closing somewhat rapidly though but it is extremely active and eats well.

I do have CP on hand as well as Cupramine and copper test. I have tried Hypo in the past and had a 50% success rate. Given this scenario - of periodic scratching but no white spots, somewhat rapid respiration but good activity and appetite, what would be the best course of action to try? Another round of Prazi and hope for the best? or CP? and at what dose? 40 mg/gal or 60mg/gal? Can this be considered an "active" infestation if I can see no spots?

I get the red fuzzy/slimed stuff in my QT also but it seems to do no harm to the fish and since nobody sees the tank I've not fussed about it. I do completely clean and dry my QT after each resident has passed (both in the bad and good way ) which gets rid of any residual schmutz.

Day 4: All good, no signs of Ich anywhere, everyone eating except the yellow tang, who looks much better but very thin... i think sadly his days are numbered. interestingly, the shrimp are alive look fine... as are the brittle stars... weird...

Not sure of your light schedule, but if you get them while their sleeping, in my case in the morning, you'd be amazed by how easy it is.

The shrimp will die eventually, they just take some time to go, in my case it was middle of 3rd week.

I will try and catch them in the morning right after I turn the ambient lights on.

Wtih respect to my corals, I am unsure when to return them to the tank. Assuming all continues to go well and I turn the lights back on and succsefully remove all CP from tank on or about day 30, what should my game plan be with respect to the corals?

Now the corals are being held at a friend's in a frag tank that he had significant spare room in. But given that the corals could have cycsts and what not, shouldn't i wait 10 weeks before returning them to the tank to be safe? Obviously, i'd rather not wait that long, but would seem to be foolish to do otherwise.

thoughts?

many thanks.

Yes, you should wait at least 10 weeks before returning them to the DT. This will ensure any cysts remaining have released their tomites. It also gives you plenty of time to remove all traces of CP from the tank. I'm doing the same thing, and once I am ready to return the inverts to the tank, I will start with one coral to see how it does. I have a sacrificial zoa colony that will be my test subject. :)

I would do it before the lights come on. I was having great difficulty catching them. Then one morning I decided to give it a shot, they literally did not move. Use a net and clear basket and you will get them. I did not wait 10 weeks, I only did 4 weeks but i would not recommend that based of the lifecycle. I knowingly took a chance.

Somebody ask Louis what happened to alprazo.

Louis said that I should check back on RC. He has had a lot of orders recently and was wondering what being said.

I apologize to those who have PM'd me over the past several months. The short story - I had a 20,000 gal build thread of my eventual shark pool and 1500 gal lagoon build. After too many insults I decided to take the photos down and end the thread. The moderator called me fraud and ended my PM box by filling the space. He or she also removed my "I support RC" status. At that point I figured that I had contributed enough to the value of this site with elasmobranch and veterinary knowledge. I asked for my account to be closed and my money refunded. I changed my signature to "moved on". It appears the mod went back and added "NOT". I continued to receive notifications of PMs and obviously the account is live. The PMs are not there though.

Anyway I am glad to see that CP is catching on. I have had discussions over the past couple months with some about the possibility of resistance to CP and failure for it to clear crypto in some large scale cases. Not sure if it was real. I never obtained an infected fish to verify crypto microscopically nor was able to test with pharmaceutical grade CP. Something to keep in mind though if you are having treatment failures.

In the spring, once I have access to silversides, Louis and I plan to collaborate and test other potential products. I will also determine a lethal dose for CP.

Not sure as to my future status on this board. I can be found at the same user name on many others if you wish to PM me.

Good luck and thanks Humblefish
