I have been reading some older posts/blogs on the use of CP, and some state that it will destroy the biological filter on a QT tank, yet that has not been my experience. Any current views on this?

I use a seeded sponge as biological filtration with CP, and not once have I ever had an ammonia scare.
 
Hey all - I've completed treatment of my DT with CP @ 60mg/gal. All my fish made it through unscathed and no worse for wear it seems. I'm now in the process of removing it. I have my reef lights back up to 60% (was running them at 20% during treatment), my skimmer is back on, and I'm running both a carbon and a GFO reactor. I also have a strip of Poly-Filter over the bubble trap in the sump. Still dealing with some cloudiness in the water (bacterial bloom), but I expect that to go away with aggressive skimming.

Question: how often should I refresh my carbon and GFO in the reactors? Every couple of days? Once a week? I have no idea how quickly they will become saturated. I'm using BRS Deluxe reactors filled with BRS Rox 0.8 and BRS Bulk GFO respectively. My inverts won't be going back into the DT for another 8 weeks or so, so I have plenty of time to suck out the CP.

I ran CP in a 180g tank with LR, then when it was time to remove it I ran ROX carbon aggressively, running all water through 3 filter socks filled with carbon and changing it every 3 days, however I continued to register phosphates off the scale on my Hanna meter after a week of doing it

So I then ran LC through a filter sock and within 8 hrs my phosphates were under 0.5 on the Hanna meter

I realize that Chloroquin Phosphate dissociates and releases phosphate so I'm not sure if the phosphate level correlates with Chloroquin levels

The only way I have found to know if CP is gone is to observe algae growing back
 
I treated a hippo tang with a mild ich infection. I used 1 tsp for 40 gal (80 mg/ gal) Started with 40 mg/gal and gradually added the additional 40 mg/ gal over next 10 days. The ich cleared up after a few days. After about 2 weeks, the fish appeared lethargic and stopped eating. On day 16 found a dead fish with no signs of disease, appeared in perfect condition, little skinny but he did stop eating. Seems like something internal shutdown. 80mg/ gal may be too much for a hippo tang. I purchased the CP from ebay.

I too have had success in the past with CP and unfortunately am having to treat for ich again. THis time, I have a queen angel that appears to have a few "bumps" on her side that may be flukes. Question/Reverification: Can I use Prazipro to treat for Flukes at same time I am treating with CP? I don't have any inverts in the DT, it's a FOWLR and I have: Queen Angel, Koran Angel, Lion Fish, Gold spot and Scribbled Rabbit Fish, two small puffers (Fiji and Tobi), Snowflake eel, Picaso Trigger and Niger Trigger. The ich outbreak wasn't bad, just saw a few spots on the Scribbled Rabbit fish and wanted to end it before it got out of hand. Any feedback would be appreciated. Other note: No UV, carbon or skimmer running.

Yes, you can use Prazi in conjunction with CP. Prazi supposedly loses some of its effectiveness with CP, but it shouldn't cause any drug interactions.

I changed out carbon once a week. I think the aggressive water changes every 3-4 days helped quite a bit. I did about 4 30g water changes on a 155g.
 
I've had my system running for about two months now after the Dt treatment. corals are growing, 4 new additions and no signs of ich. All 4 were treated in qt as well

It appears the tank went through a mini cycle and the ammonia has been deadly. I've been doing large water changes and using Prime to try and help but no success. I've lost a midas blenny, flame angel, bonded black snowflake clowns, orchid dottyback, and a couple blue reef chromis.

There must be something else going on with your tank, as I've never seen CP cause a spontaneous cycle. How old was the tank?

Sorry for your losses. That's a major bummer. :(
 
Tank is almost a year old and has been stable since the initial cycle. I removed all the corals and inverts too. I fully didn't expect this after doing the reading I have on CP and the success stories of others.

Is it possible that you had a massive bristleworm (or similar) die off that ultimately triggered an ammonia spike? I know I would have to clean out my sump before ever contemplating using CP in my DT because of all the little critters (inverts) I've got living down there.
