My journey using Chloroquine Phosphate begins...

please keep us posted on the tang.. I just lost a emperator to the same looking thing.. it was not ick.. it looked like someone took tape and wrapped it around the fish and removed it and off came some skin or should say top layer of skin of the fish..

will do chicago

thank alprazo! was hoping you would chime in!

can do at least 3 of those salvage protocols later today until my cp comes in..

can u tell what disease my tang has?

also 2.2g is the correct dosage for my 55QT?

yeah, here it is:
thanks a lot. does anyone look if this looks legitimate or anything odd about it. it looks so simple to fudge or change and there is no way to tie it back to the seller's product it seems. not even a date on when the certificate was issued or the assay completed? is it common for the product to be for sale to be three years old (based on the manufacturer date)?

Hi,

I hate to feel like invading this thread but my DT that is full of rocks have one tang with ich. The tang only has one ich spot on its body. It is fish only for now with ac ouple of shrimps. Can I dose my main tank with CP? I have pharmaceutical grade CP that I can use and I am also wanting to add corals in this tank in the future. Can I use CP on my main tank? I plan to use a lot of carbon when the fish cures for a month before adding any corals.

I dosed my tank with chloroquine phosphate. I have high nitrates and I am trying to grow algae on my scrubber. I have all the correct lighting and roughed up screen. I can not grow any algae whatsoever. I am on day ten with still no algae. I know chloroquine phosphate can act as Algaecide. So I am going to completely drain the tank and put fresh saltwater in. Will this help enable me to grow algae??

I I almost finish by CP treatment then came home to 6 dead anthias, not sure if my CP level was too high or it might be ammonia. 0.15 ammonia reading and I showed CP at 60mg/g
They were about to be transfer to dt tomorrow too. Pretty bummed.

What changed. I assume they were in CP for some time? For the all to die at once and suddenly it was likely an acute event

Decrease in o2 sats. Pump or filter stalled
Toxin in tank. Kid spilled something
Rapid, extreme temp change. Heater got stuck on.
Large pH swing,
Water conditions not suitable for life

Were there any other animals in tank?

Place some water in jar and saved for further testing

no jsut my 6 anthias it was weird ot have them all died overnight. I can only htink maybe ammonia levels. I have treated with CP 2x before and they went fine. I am a bit bum over all this right now. They have been in CP for 5 weeks.

any ammonia is too much and if exposed for too long, one death could lead to others because of decay in a small enough qt or just extended exposure to the ammonia. having an active bacteria population and keeping tabs on your water quality are paramount. nutrient monitoring are critical to qt being successful. how are you measuring CP that you "showed CP at 60mg/g"?

sorry for your experience but extrapolate what you can from it, learn, teach others your lesson, and move on when you're ready.

I meant that I dosed CP at 60mg/g

just got my cp in mail today! ive been using formalin ms this past week and tangs color has gotten darker and less white blotches but he still has one white spot on his eye...

going to do a water change this weekend and dose the cp.

I haven't been on here for awhile.

Since thomas labs is not selling CP anymore.

Anyone know some sources to get CP again.

Thanks.

Anyone know some sources to get CP again.

As far as I am concerned, getting a vet to write a script which can then be filled at a local pharmacy is the only way to be sure you are getting legit CP. No other reliable source exists at present time.

I have a couple questions about cp and my tank. I got CP through a legit 99% pure source. I dosed 7 grams for a 175g tank trying to determine how much of that the live rocks take up. I covered the tank and has been that way for three days feeding once per day. Finally got a chance tonight to test ammonia and I'm sitting at .5 to 1.0!!! The question I have is I added Prime straight to tank will this mess with the concentration of CP? Also I realized tonight that I forgot to remove sacks of denitrite from sump will I need to remove those ASAP or do they have no effect on CP. My skimmer and uv have both been off I noticed all fish breathing very slow I'm assuming that's from living in the dark these past days. Work and life isn't going to allow me to do a water change for a couple days but I will monitor ammonia level and will dose prime if needed.
Thanx in advance sorry for such a long message.
-Steve
