Note to reader:
---------------- like every other technology and lighting spectrum even after many years of playing around withtanks and so forth, there's certain corals and SPS that do not like and either browned out or withered away with the change.

In my opinion not all can be credited to the change in lights since there's been other variables thru this process, but the LEDS do work and the advantages in my opinion waaaaay surpass the so called setbacks.

Did you experience any color change/ improvements from the MH set up or did they just maintain? Also comparing the two what yielded more growth?

what is the name of the coral, the one above the last picture? Tank is looking very nice. Got to love them LEDs.

Any updates to share? I'm currently on a waiting list for a couple AI Sol's and am still on the fence. Just want to see how these things perform long term.

As i stated before the tank just went to some serious re arranging--took 60% of rock out as well as sand, also I was supplementing this tank with T5's and removed those to use evolution LED's modules all blue.

Its been 4-5 weeks since the major overhaul and only 20% of previous corals are in but it appears that things are on the mend and over the next several months I will continue to add previous corals.

Some pics to follow--- again I do strongly believe that the LEDS will and certainly over time are proving themselves that coupled with good husbandry and so forth.

Like every other lights corals need to be in my experience placed adequately but the addition of the all blue to supplement and added coverage has grealty improve the overall look- at least to my trained eye used to 20k radiums over many years.

Important and 100% true statement-- FPL bill on the average has decreased 70-$100 since two chillers are not being used as well as the heat and 1200 watts of MH's.

This are all thru the process and some recent ones as of yesterday-have not had much time to continue adding my critters but soon enuff-- patience is a virtue.

The change will unequivocally provide me and all of us some serious insight in terms of this lights and spectrum bringing all this corals back to thier glory-- off course after loses but its all part of the game.

Over crowded farg tank-- many moved to other suitable locations in the meantime.

I was able to do this over around 8 hrs since I have a vat with 300 gallons premixed so the whole process was somewhat simple.

Final aqua and some critters in this is the day of.
Decided to keep many corals out and will continue to add them as I see fit.

And the last one as of yesterday, many corals "easy" sps are quickly mending themselves and showing many postive signs of color and growth.
Many of the "not so easy" sps are still out of the tank, again montis/chalices and slimers are progressively improving every day, making this lights IMO and IME certainly capable of not only growing sps but fixing them after a major stress.

I noticed you have an emperor angelfish in the pics (or not) any issues with corals?

emperor/flame/potters/fisherii/poma and many others still not in.
No issues never had them never will.
I feed rogers reef food twice a day from a mesh those guys are trained to come and get it.

Great write-up. I would have never normally considered LED for SPS...nice to see some experienced reefers try new technology.

Starboard??? Why...tell me you will cover it with a little sand...

LOL I know but unfortunately this tank got a bout of marine velvet so i had to make a decision to eliminate some of them" spores" that stay in the sand, so made a quick decision and turnover the tank in 8 hrs into this bare bottom.

Its hard to get used to but soon enuff it will be covered with zoos and other corals.

Plus and the biggest plus is the super duper flow I have running.

Anyways I hope your tank is coming around also.

Only time will tell-- i can honestly say that not all SPS will thrive in the tank so I have to be careful in placement and choosing, but then again thats the case with MH's also as we all know.

Love the new look of the tank.

I gotta admit, between this and several threads on RC, and more importantly what I've seen first hand out of LEDs from a few local reefers...I'm definitely intrigued. Still a little bit cost prohibitive for me, but I'm definitely keeping an eye on LED.

Great thread Manny, I am in the process of switching to LED's and just by reading your thread have gaine some valuable insight into the transition process. I will have around 110 3W Cree LED's when the fixture is complete and have been running them at 700MA instead of full power (As i do not have the Profulux) I have an Apex that will allow me to set the Intensity ramp up and down and to what power level it will go from 0-100%. That being said where do you reccommend starting the settings to start with, I am switching from a combo od M/H and T5Ho and Reefbrite LED's to All LED?
BTW Very nice coral I'll PM you for a frag pack when I am happy with the Change if you are up to doing some fragging?
Bill
PS Skimmer is working great now that i figured it out.

Thx buddy anytime.
I started this units at 50% White/80% blue .
Currently they only run max at 100%blue and 80% white for a period of 2.5 hrs.
The rest of the time is about 50-65% white max.
