My Mated Pair of "Misbar" Gold Stripe Maroon Clownfish Have Arrived!

WOW. the white on the tail looks to be new growth from the pic which is a good sign. I've never seen fin rot progress that fast with a pattern like that but it is possible.

On the other side of your divider is there a fish with a mouth shape about that size. I'm asking that because the Female Maroon has a tendancy to back up to the glass and kinda do a burnout if she's mad. I could see her doing that to another fish on the other side of the eggcrate and getting bitten.

Hoping for a quick recovery.

Here's a pic of her 4 days ago.

Stars and Stripes Pufferfish. That was my first idea. If you think the white is new growth then it was definitely the puffer. That little brat bites everything including a glass thermometer that he shattered. The fish is eating fine so that is always a good sign. I'll keep you posted!

I've never owned a Puffer but I've heard they can be agressive, just keep up the water quality and you should have her healed up in a few days. If you need anything just shout.

Add vitamin soaked mysis to her diet as well. High protein diet will help the fish heal in addition to the garlic.

I feed the tank mysis daily but so far the only thing she has taken are NLS pellets and Aqueon marine flake.

Very nice looking pair you have. I am moving to an apartment complex and redoing my entire system to feature a pair of golden stripes maroons.

Here is another thing my 2 Maroons would just beat up each other when they were getting ready to lay, my male would bite her top fins off all the time and same for female when she was mad she bit him all the time. From what I have read this happens when they are breeding and are arguementive over the laying spot. Just something to throw out there.

Well the tail rot progression (or just the dying fin tissue falling off) has completely stopped and will hopefully start healing soon. I have not yet seen the female actually take in any food but a couple hours after I put the pellets in/around their flowerpot they all disappear. I have seen the male take some flake but have yet to see him eat any pellets.

Hopefully everyone will be OK. I would be devastated to lose this established female.

Haven't seen her eat much but I did finally visually watch her take a piece of squid I was feeding the tank and keep it in!!! Hopefully things are looking up!

Well the tail is healing and she is eating flake and NLS pelletts now. Everything seems like it's going well! I hope they are ok with the move to another new tank in a few weeks!

How is your female doing? I hope she's on the road to a full recovery, if not there already.

She's doing good. The tail has plenty of new growth coming in and she is eating NLS pelletts like it's her job. I just wish I didnt have to wait 3 weeks to get her into her new home.

SkullV,

My fiance and I breed clowns and we purchased a spawning pair of GSM's once and experienced something similar to what you have but our female died. What we figure happened was the female didn't get enough oxygen in her old home and the stress of the move ultimately did her in. In your case, I think stress played a part in her not eating (although clowns can survive weeks w/out eating) and it does sound like the puffer nipped her on the tail. If it was fin rot, I would think it would effect the other fish in the system as well.

Just keep the water conditions stable and everything should be fine. And like any animal (or my son), they will eat when they're hungry! :)

This is the most perplexing clown ever! Now I haven't seen her heat in eat more then a pellet or 2 in a couple days but the food does always disappear off the floor of the tank. The previous owner said that this is somewhat normal with her.

I think once you get her into a bigger tank she'll get into a better rhythm but, keep in mind when she was spawning in the tank here she rarely ate the day before and the day she laid which is typical for some breeding clowns.

As long as the food is disappearing that's good.

Looks good! I wouldn't really call them a misbar pair, however. Female GS Maroons will often loose parts or all of their stripes as they mature. I had one female that was about 4" long that only had about 1/4" of her first gold stripe left. All the rest had disappeared(and she had three full stripes when I got her as a juvenile).

Kevin

Interesting. I didn't know this.

She's a big girl, very healthy looking pair!

Yeah, she is definitly not losing any weight and the tail is about 70% healed. I actually am getting into my new place a little earlier so the tank move will be happening on the 15th instead of the 21st!

Luckily the Male is a true Misbar. I will try and get some close up pics of his headband it is pretty cool looking!
