my new 120 rr

Very nice!!! working on a similar build myself, and plan on using a few ideas of yours. keep up the good work.

If you're talking about the eductor mods. Yeah I ended up adding some lenght of PVC and lowering the eductor mod down along the back bottom 1/3 of my tank since I was having problems with euphillia heads popping off by shear from my suspicion.

As for your return to the sump there's that one right-side length of pipe that goes horizontal before dropping back down into a 90 into the filter sock....

I understand it is not a good idea to have totally flat flow for your return. (Stagnant water, increased resistance to flow, noise...) I would recommend to cut off those 90's and replace with 45's or flexible PVC pipe. YMMV :D

i got the pluming all done. i will glue it after i move the tank into its place in the house.

I've move on to the stockman style stand pipe and like it a lot more that the durso style you built.

http://www.rl180reef.com/pages/standpipe/standpipe-ken_stockman.htm

Actualy I have one of each but with 2 like yours my tank "flushed" after I changed out 1 stand pipe the flushing went away so I would say the replacement flows more water. Just something to think about if your tank flushes. I'm also running 2 mag 9.5 you may need to make your stand pipes a little taller ther might be a lot of water fall noise with them as low as there set now.

nice build! I'm also working on a 120 build, but at about 1/100th of your pace. Where did you buy the tank and how much was it? I have a used 120 that I'm considering replacing with a new tank.

Please enlighten me why the return is coming in on the bottom, rather than on the top and is there enough space for the sand to clear the returns? I am not clear as to why, but I am assuming it is because if it shoots out on the bottom it will raise debris to the top to the overflow? Will the reef effect this type of system? What kind of benefit does it provide above doing an over the top return flow?

I just set mine up. It can be changed if this is a better choice.

Also, I have the stockman overflow built into my 75, with Mike's help, and it's a DIY and I have to say if you add a prefilter to that design, it gets a lot of junk out before it goes down and saves so much time and headache. I wash the prefilter every few days and you would not believe what comes out of that.

bored4long i got the tank at the deep here in redding.as for the price of the tank lets just say it was a really good price.i used to work ther so i get my stuff at wholesale.

renee the returns at the bottom of the tank are for more flow at the bottom of the tank as you said to help keep debris off the bottom.ther is also returns at the top of the tank to.for my standpipes ther is enough room to put aprefilter on ther if i need to.

Great. I figured that was the reason. I may just do the same thing...I wish they made PVC in black that didn't stick out like a sore thumb, however.

There was tank build thread awhile back where the guy actually painted all of the plumbing under his tank in like Hot pink, and neon green type colors, he had day, and actinic lighting over the sump/refugium because he had a frag rack in one side, and with the actinics all of his plumbing glowed.
Was a little too wild for me, but was cool in it's own way. I was actually wondering what would happen if you painted them, or really freak people out and use the shelveing paper that looks like wood to cover them so you look like you have wooden plumbing.

ROFL, that had to be wild. I don't think I'd do a neon aquarium design. It's just not my style. Yuck.

Micaiah, if the pump should shut off, could the aquarium backflow and empty? Is there a way to prevent this from occurring?

typically there is a small anti-siphon hole made at the top of the return. This breaks the suction of the reverse waterflow in the case that the pump fails. If I make it to the meeting tomorrow I will show you the one on the display tank in the front window with the large puffer in it.

Sorry I think we are talking about two diffrent parts of the plumbing when we were talking about colors, I was talking about the plumbing under the tank, and I think you are talking about in the tank.
There is a marine epoxy that is the same shade of blue as the blue backing on the truvu aquariums that is nice.
And I have seen people use the black pond foam to blend it into the rock.
I really like when they take the time to use a core drill to actually drill the rock work to put over the pipes, but can you imagine if you ever wanted to change your rock work?
I think I wouldn't bother myself, eventually it is all purple, and brown or green in the mean time. Although it does take awhile to get there.

get a can of krylon fusion. 1 can will do all of the plumbing, inside and outside of the tank. i used it on my 72 with no issues, just sand/scuff the pvc before painting or it will chip.

Darn that Rosco and his nifty stuff ! I'm going to have to corner him on that one as well josh. I hate that white. it sticks out like a sore thumb.:)
