Goodwin9,

I am wondering why you installed the canister filters horizontally as opposed to vertically...seems no matter how careful you would be you will get alot of saltwater underneath the stand. I can see the obvious height restriction of the stand, I am still curious as to whether you wish you had done it differently or have made some accomodations to minimize water loss.

Height was the issue with the canisters. They are very easy to service in this configuration. There is a shut off valve for the water entering the canisters, and leaving. It is a matter of closing both of those and then hooking a hose to the drain valve located below the right canister and draining the canisters. Canisters hold about 2 gallons so the loss is minimal when servicing.

He does great work. I have two of his large media reactors and two of his large CA reactors. I couldn't be more pleased with the way that they have preformed.

lot of action in the Ray tank today!
Did you see Lunchbucket & Mrs Lunchbucket? They finally made a trip to Sioux Falls to view the tanks. I couldn't talk them into feeding the rays by hand..... I see we knocked the camera a little out of wack....

Goodwin - Thanks a TON for the tour!! We enjoyed it very much! We couldn't believe that you had 5+tanks over 150-200gal! Very nice. Also liked seeing all the different sizes of the Deltecs floating around waiting to get hooked up :D I hope that I can see your set up's again..VERY nice

I was wondering if anyone saw me and the wife drooling over your tanks today.

jnarowe - Did you us?

Just finished the entire thread to date and had a few questions.

1. ' My closed loop has 4 returns going into the tank, all with penductors on them.'
I always wondered about these. It would seem to me that they could mess up a fish if he swam in front of one of them. Do the fish avoid their powerful streams? In what direction do you point the penductors?

2. Where does the H&S 300 reside? Does it have a self cleaning head and if not how often does it fill up? Somewhere pretty deep into the thread you mentioned adding a pump--blueline?--is that an additional pump and how does that 'add-on'?

3. Do you diminish the flow at night?

The webcam is working great. Thanks for sharing.

The penductors are located on the four rear returns. The two outside are directed towards the front center of the tank. The middle two are directed towards opposite front corners of the tank. I don't see the fish hovering around them, until they are shut off. They then have a chance to pick the algae off the returns.

The H&S skimmer sits behind the calcium reactor located at the front of the tank. With all of the plumbing, it is hard to get a good shot of the skimmer, but there is a T located at the input of the skimmer. One side is fed directly from one of the returns, the other half of the T is fed from a Blueline 20 pump drawing water from the sump. Either side of the T can be shut off or both can be open to increase the flow going into the skimmer. The skimmer does not have a self cleaning head. I wish it did as it is a real project to get that large collection cup out from under the tank for cleaning. The skimmer is producing 1 to 2 gallons a day in waste.

I haven't been turning down the flow at night. I would put the closed loop on a timer if it wasn't for the fact that the calcium reactor is getting it's feed from the loop. If I can find a place to move that feed, I might consider a timer for the closed loop.

Am glad that you like the web cams. I thought that they would add a little. Have been averaging over 50 hits a day on the cams. Now all I have to do is find time to finish the rest of the website........

Finally got some SPS frags from one of the local reefers in town. Got them mounted and now to find places for them in the tank. Going to have to find a book so that I can learn the different names. Any suggestions???
