just wanted to chime in and say best of luck to you. Don't let yourself get bogged down by other peoples opinion, keep on keeping on.

I think the proper words would be tang SWAT Team it is sad how so many know it alls can ruin such nice threads seems like it is becoming more and more frequent here on this board more so than some others... Goodwin I loved the tnak no matter what others say and I am sure that you have learned hard lessons like the rest of us, keep up the efforts!

well, those other boards will mature too. It's just like moving to the country and having the city come to you. What do you do, move to the country again? Where I live, There's only 100 miles left between us and the sea...then what?

Live underwater.........................

But seriously Goodwin, when is that next shipment comin' in? jk I would say if you stop stocking fish now and let the tank mature you will be doin okay. By then if any 1 or 2 fish become problems just remove them and set up a new tank...

Wow what a reading in the last 5 pgs.

First of all, I applaud you putting up all your successes/failures for everyone to learn from.

I am no expert, but I have had saltwater tanks for 30 years now & have made many mistakes along the way.

I have a purple, yellow, pb, & 2 blue tangs in a 200. They are going on 8 yrs old. Just recently the 2 blues started fighting, & I had to give one to my friends pet store where he is still fat & happy in his new 370 gal tank.

Thats right when a problem with compatability occured, I solved it by giving a fish to a friend.

The detection of NO2 shows that the bio filter is not handling all the waste that your tank has. NO2 is more deadly than NO3 at the same level. The Crash they are talking about is if the NO2 or Am overrun the bacteria available to change it to less deadly NO3.

That being said I have traces of NO2 in my tank from time to time which is why I have to do frequent large water changes.

If I were you I would have already been baned for telling a few people here what I thought about the way they expressed their opinions.

I have been following your thread from the begining & am glad someone still puts up their tank progress knowing they might get some criticism.

Your tank is beautiful, thank you for sharing with us.

i guess my 8 yellow belly in my display will become contract killer  . hey Chuck how big is the lobster and is that his only meal? i always wanted to buy one.

Thank you for sharing the information and explanations. In a few sentences, your explanation of the "crash" finally makes more sense to me.

I wished that I would have paid a little more attention in chemistry class years ago......

I am curious as to the size of your fish after having kept them for 8 years. How big are your blues?

Some of my yellow tangs in my other tanks are going on close to 3 years and I haven't seen anything that I would consider aggressive. I'm glad that I have been for warned to watch out. I assumed (and apparently wrong) that without the introduction of any new fish, the existing fish would live in harmony...

Again, thank you for your post and explanation!

Chuck, have you thought about doing a school of Purple tangs?
One is enough, this is the fish that worry about becoming aggressive first.

He hasn't come out front this past week, so I really don't know how big he is now that he has shed. He eats silversides like they are candy. This picture was taken the night he decided to have the leather for desert. Coming from a person who has had one for nearly three years, I can tell you that I would strongly recommend not keeping one. If you decided to get one, I would consider putting him in his own tank.

Thanks Brian, I wish I kew everything, it sure would make things a lot easier. Just when you think you understand something, you learn something new and start your rethinking all over again.

Just think Jonathan, you could be the first to build a house under the sea. No more tank maintenance.....

I sure hope it's many years down the road before that happens.

One of my non-reefer buddies commented that if I didn't get the tank installed and running, I could always use it as a glass bottom boat! :D

I've never been in one. Remember to let me know when you start your charter service!!

"I am curious as to the size of your fish after having kept them for 8 years. How big are your blues?"

I bought the blues when they were about 2" long & they have grown faster than any fish I have. They are about 9- 10" long & 1- 1/2 " wide. Far outgrown all the rest.

Thats a (aquarium size) full grown yellow below him.

I've got 2 Regal blues too. I've had them about 5 yrs, funny thing is 1 grew large 7-8 inch, the other remained small 4-5 inches. I also have a 3.5 inch convict that I've had for even longer, and he hasn't grown at all.
