My new 600 gallon reef

I wonder if there wouldn't be some value in a cord-keeper system? Some RC members have even used PVC pipe to run their wires, but that flexible slotted stuff might be a good idea. I have wires all over my tank room too, but I have them affixed using a variety of fasteners and channels.

I'd need a 3" PVC pipe for all of these.... It's much better than the mess I had before....

I think in your case, PVC would not be the way to go anyway. You need a raceway of some sort. Check into local electrical supply stores to see what they have. Even a half pipe hung from the ceiling to lay cables in might help out.

I"m sure I've missed this, but what are all those computers for?

Chuck is crazy about playing his Halo, and warcraft games

Do you experience any rust on those PCs or anywhere else in your basement?
No I don't, they actually keep the room very dry, humidity never gets much more than 40%

wow it does look much better and prob. much easier to get behind the tank now to do some maint. nice job.
I should have posted a before picture for others to see, but it was a pretty big tangle of wires, timers & switch panels. I am really surprised that no one ever managed to get shocked back there. Melev was really nervous when he and Willy pulled out the pipe from the overflow..... (I was too!)

I am sure they were very nervous, I was always scared to go back there to check out the skimmer and other things, cause I didn't want to trip over some cables and such and knock something in the tank to kill everything. but looks much better and now I don't have to worry about sneaking back there to look at the monster skimmer :D

Thanks Lunch for the plug...but some of you are right and some are completely dead wrong. I have been doing the hobby for 10 years plus a little. This hobby is full of people that want lots of information for free....yes for free. Go into a computer store and ask them to fix your computer for free, or give you the quick and simple thing to get it running again. So many in this hobby ruin it for others. Always slamming LFS, well let me tell you I am in financial ruin trying to run a LFS that had online or close to it prices.

jnarowe, please help me figure this out. I am trying to see your point. Tell me any other successful business that only marks items up 10-20%? Even shoe-stores, that have 30-40% off are still making $$$. I do not understand. This hobby is going to implode or something like that because it will only be online, due to lots of people who know nothing put up an online store and charge 10% over cost and sell things. Here is my biggest point, where do a lot of them get the information...yes some here but majority get it from the LFS...not all full of crap. I sold people what they needed...not what would make me the most $$$, and bam I still could not keep it open with no rent, low utilities, and such. I am a good business owner and run a maintenance business now that makes $$, good $$ but all to pay off the $80,000 worth of debt that I owe trying to run a LFS that had "good prices".

Please before you all go on a slamming-fest, think of others. Most LFS do not make money hands over fist, most are on the brink of closing. Just ask around. Might end up LFS being a thing of the past soon.

just venting and a lot of bottled up anger toward people who bash LFS without stating the other side.

Grant

Sorry for reviving this since it is off topic.
But I think it has quite a bit to do with it being an expensive hobby with a large chunk of members who can't afford to be part of it.

When a fellow in our marketing department asked if I would fix his PC I said sure, as long as he makes me a website for free. He looked a bit odd at that.

Sorry Chuck!
Back to topic! Great tank!!! :D

hey Chuck, check out this post:

Glycerine for bubble counter

I think we may have stumbled onto what you are getting from MD!! :D
Jonathan....did you read the label on the bottle...had I tasted the stuff, I would have been blowing bubbles from places other than my ears & nose......

I have been using Glycerin in my bubble counter, not sure if the question had been answered.

I guess you guys missed my post on page 23.

The bubble counter is the only place I have put that stuff into. :)

Well, I finally got in gear and got the wiring mess behind the tank up off the floor and semi organized. Melev insisted that be one of my priorities. Much more room behind the tank now.

That looks soo much better! Having room to work behind the tank, such as cleaning lighting fixtures, is important. Standing over and in all that electrical stuff just felt like tempting fate. :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

Something that might come in handy for holding cords is velcro straps. You can reuse them over and over, yet keep them tidy. Zip ties are probably cheaper but you always have to cut them and replace them with new ones. Either/or....

So it has been about a week. How do you like your new reflectors at this juncture?

Are you feeding as much, or perhaps a little less now? How are your gonioporas doing?

Did you hook up the de-nitrifier yet?
