just thought I would post a couple more pics of the lobster that I took while at chucks last night. BTW those lights really make a huge diff. with the reflectors. and behind the tank is very clean :D

also thanks chuck for taking the time going over the diff. pumps with me. helped out alot.

I've posted pictures in DakotaReef & UrbanSage's threads, but don't know where to put these particular ones. They are from Mark's home, the first spot we visited Saturday morning. Mark owns or works at a LFS, and has a big reef tank in his living room. However, the basement is under contruction for a huge upgrade.

Unfortunately I don't recall all the facts, so maybe Chuck can provide those details. This tank has been up for a few years, and had quite a few young tangs in it. And two brand new Tunze Stream pumps.

While we watched, he fed his fish.

It didn't have a lot of SPS corals, but this was a pretty A. micropthalma

Sleeper Goby, I believe.

When we went down the stairs into the basement, you could see how all the rooms were studded out. One day it will be amazing down there. This is the view of the wall where the plasma tv will go.

FYI, he's had the plasma in the box since LAST Thanksgiving, because he knows once it is set up, he'll stop working on his home. I don't think I could possibly wait a year without hooking it up. And he's still not ready to see it yet.

Here's his new acrylic 400g bowfront tank. It was huge. The steel stand looked very sturdy. He plans to tile the front of the wall, and add some access doors above the tank.

Not pictured, but also in the basement is a whirlpool jet bathtub. My guess that is for his wife. ;)

The two steel uprights could be removed to insert this full-length sump.

And finally, we all noticed this thing hanging above our heads. It was the chiller, mounted to the floor joists. It cools the reef upstairs.

Where's Willy & Marc when I need them. I watched as the fixed the return for the closed loop in this tank and they made it look easy. ...Well, the shark and ray tank was experiencing the same problem with the pump not getting enough water and causing cavitation so after fighting with it, we finally got the return pipe out, cleaned, and additional holes drilled in the pipe just incase the strainer becomes plugged again. What a PITA. Thank you Willy & Melev for showing ho wit is to be done!

Something else you might consider:

This is it in the original install. I now have just one of the segments without the rubber shield, and I have more water in my outbound sump. This item can be found at most big box stores like HD and Lowes.

Chuck, How often are you changing those pleated filters?
The pleated cartridges I usually change every 7 to 10 days.

Chuck, the webcam for the 600g is still offline for some reason. Are you keeping us in suspense for a reason? ;)

Seems the lighting is causing algae growth in the calcium reactor on the 600 and also on the calcium reactor for my 470 located 10 feet away from the tank. On Melev's suggestion, they are now both protected sith some inexpensive black poster board.

This is the calcium reactor located under the tank. The refugium lights are the cause of this.

FIXED..

The reactor on my 470 is a good 10 feet away from the big tank and the lights still caused quite a bit of growth.

FIXED.

Please fix it!

Well, I finally found glycerine locally at our high-end grocery store. It was in the health department and by the looks of it, I am guessing 100% vegetable oil would work just as well. This 4 oz. bottle cost a little over $5, so not savings over getting it from MD.

Are you going to give it a try in your bubble counter?

If you add a little colored light, you can have your own very little lava lamp.... You might be surprised when people look at your bubble counter how they notice the bubbles right off the bat.
