My new 600 gallon reef

Once again, I need to thank Nick (Urbansage), for taking the time to stop by last night and volunteer to clean up the tanks. He did a great job on both the 600 and 470. Makes the tank look a lot more presentable and enjoyable. Nick, THANK YOU!, I really appreciate your help!!

Looking good...

So Chuck, I want to share with you first, I just made a rediculous impulse buy. I picked up a show size Atlantic Blue Tang which is actually about 2" longer than the max size stated in Michael Scott's Marine Fishes. It's at about 11.5" right now, and about 3 years old.

Got any pictures of the new addition yet?

nope. new tank rule: do not take pictures until I know they will survive. It seems to be bad luck! It's a pretty fish though. Beautiful coloration going from lavender/purple to dark blue, to nearly black, depending on mood.

How are you doing anyway?

They get really aggressive, had them in the public aquarium tanks. As they are adults, more aggressive than most aggressive tangs....just a thought.

You are welcome Chuck.
I can't imagine going through what you are experiencing. The least we can do is make sure you have a clean tank :)

no doubt there. that's what I love about the reef keeping community too. for the most part, we are willing to help each other out in times of need. it's very good social karma. :)

Are we talking the same fish here?

POSSIBLY. It has the horizontal lines but seemingly more and closer together. No yellow on it at all that I could see, but I have not viewed it when it was not under stress. And it is a full adult.

It gets very dark blue when it feels threatened too.

It looks just like this one on the Marine Center site:

Wicked fish jnarowe. I've been unsuccessful in keeping atlantic blues. I would love to have one though. I'd say you've caught what the rest of us tang guys have by buying that big blue tang!! The adults are all Blue, the juveniles are yellow and the adolescents are a mix.
