My new 600 gallon reef

I am just trying to get a feel for how many i can fit in my 600...Do you think that is about the max? I was thinking around 120ish total...But i know you have a lot of bigger fish...I have like 35ish fish and my tank looks naked!

I guess it depends a little on what size fish you want in the tank. If my tangs were smaller or fewer in numbers, I wouldn't think twice about adding more fish. Personally, I like the bigger fish, but they sure make it hard to keep the water quality up there. I would think that with the right mix of fish, 120 wouldn't be too many.

Chuck, what do you do to keep the water quality up in your 600? I had 50 fish (over 20 tangs) in my 450 and my nitrates were steadily climbing.

I haven't found the solution for the nitrates. Mine are high, 20+ , due mostly to the number of fish and probably my feeding of the tank. The nitrates don't seem to effect the fish, but my corals are a different story.......

I am thinking about adding like 25 more Anthias at some point...I like lots of smaller fish and few big ones (not sure why though)
I wish I could exchange some of my cardinals for more anthias..much more active, and I like how they school together. The stand out in this short video..

Is there a unicorn tang in there? (Not the vlamingi...) If so, what kind is it?
Yes, there is a Unicorn tang in the tank. I don't know that particular type of Unicorn.

Chuck, what is the black/grey tang to the right of the Unicorn in the second photo?
It's a Pale Lipped Tang. (Acanthurus leucocheilus) I post some better picures of the fish in a bit.

Thanks for the ID! This was the tang that I just recently lost. I'm sad, and hope one day to adopt another successfully.

yeah, I really like the pale lipped too.
Jonathan..you and I think alike, we both like TANGS! :)

 you would crap your pants if you saw my ABT in person. The gears in your head would throw some teeth. In fact I would bet you will be exporting fish next year.

Sorry to hear that..Mine is very well behaved and doesn't bother anyone else in the tank. Very mild mannered. I hope that you are able to find another,

Do I see a full grown sail-fin tang with a baby one?
How big are they?
Do they get along?

I have a baby (3") in my 120 gallon and love that fish!
Don't worry I have a 270 in the garage that I will be setting up in May.
There are three sailfins in the tank, the largest is about 8" and the two smaller ones are about 5".

RE: Unknown Unicorn Tang.

Well..it isn't N. unicornis... If you ever figure it out, post here with another picture. I like him.
