My new 600 gallon reef

Chuck, I just saw the Olympus 1030 at Costco for $180. It really is a neat pocket camera, but you'll have to steady your hands or create an acrylic tripod / monopod to help keep it still. The shutter button is a little stiff, and pushing it down tends to push the camera with it.

I got try one out in CT last year, and it was fun. It can be submerged up to 10 meters, and one model comes with a LED flash.

Yeah, I am basically an idiot at photog and i get a few, pretty good, pics now and a gain with the 1030. Very easy to use , but as Marc noted, you have to work with it and steadiness is key. An acrylic standoff you could rest inside the tank would be perfect!

Marc,

I'd keep that avatar for a while too, it's a good one!

I use have an Olympus 1050 that I use when snorkelling. Great camera. The rapid fire feature allows me to take clear pics of the fish.

get a top-down box.
I have one...two issues when using it, still get some reflection in the box, and the biggest problem was the reflection I got on the view finder. Made it very difficult to get a picture I wanted.

These pics were taken with my daughters camera that she recently got as a gift otherwise my camera takes lousy pics.

You guys are correct, I use the Ocean Spray bottle to feed the sun coral so it can eat in peace without getting mugged by my other tank inhabitants. It has a hole in the lid where I inject the food with a turkey baster.
Looks like it is doing the trick! Wished I would have thought about it when I had some sun corals

Yeah, I think we may have talked about this before, but I modified mine slightly by adding a black back and a lid. The lid has a hole for just the lense to fit through. You could test it out with just about any kind of material mike a T-shirt.

Can any one give me an idea of what has happened to the Maculiceps Tang? I noticed this right after the lights came on this morning. I didn't see it last night when I fed the tank. Could one of the anemones done this?

yeah, I think so too. some fish are accident -prone.
I'm glad to hear that it's not some weird type of fungus... The fish ate well last night and seems to be as active as it has been. With all it's battle scars, chances are dwindling that I will be able to sell it....

Well, some fish are just like that, and the aqua-scaping plays a part as well. My blue tangs were always very good looking, but I have seen them in other tanks whee they were all beaten up with rock scratches. (even in very large tanks)

When I did my rockwork, I left good sized caves/tunnels and I think that was what kept my fish from getting all scarred up. Probably the low aggression from being fat and happy helped too. :)

OK...so the fish is a little stupid. Wouldn't be the first time! :eek2: Looks fine in the video. Maybe it did get a little sting from the anemone.

After seeing picture of Cougarman's unicorn, I wanted one. After a couple of failed attempts and receiving the wrong one, I think that I finally got the one that I was looking for. It was shipped to me as a Naso Unicornis. One of my other Unicorns is in the background.
