My New Cap - And NO it is not dyed!

I just purchased this badboy from my LFS today, I have never seen caps with this kind of coloration. At first I thought this was an encrusting monti, but it's definitely not :) This pic was taken under normal 10Ks without actinic supplementation.

Dirty................Now, thats a beauty!! Is it BLUE? Are U sure is not purple or lavander, coz some light will make purple look blue.
Where did U get it ,do they ship? I like it, I got to have one, if it is a TRUE BLUE CAP:)

Are you sure it is a cap? It looks more like a M. foliosa

Nice looking frag, can't wait to see it grown out.

It was under 10Ks at the shop. They said that when it first came in, it was purple but then colored up to the above.

I hope it holds it's color in my tank :)

After looking at some pics, it does look like a foliosa. The shop told me it's a cap though

I'm stoked on the color though, whether it be a cap or foliosa or whatever else it could be :)

I'm from Canada so I don't think they ship to the US. I only wish I could get my hands on the stuff you guys get :D

Yeah most places see a flat coral they automatically say cap. Either way the blue is really cool, almost like an oregon tort blue, hopefully it stays that way for you.

I've got the same piece also.under 10k it will hold that nice blue, atleast mine has, growth is pretty fast also.

very pretty color.
I agree that it definately IS NOT a capricornis. THere is no doubt about that. It definately IS a plating montipora though, most likely a foliosa, but there are many many similar looking plating monti's. but very pretty that is for sure.

Funny thing about SPS corals though is that you never know what color it really is going to turn out to be in your tank until it has been in your tank for a while.
Example:
The monti at the top of the pic was a brownish/purple when I got it about 2-3 months ago. I thought cool, it will be a nice compliment to my orange and green ones.
After a while it began to turn a reddish purple color. I thought wow, this is even cooler.
A few weeks later it was the color in the picture.
And now it is the exact same color as the orange one in the picture.
:mad2:
