My new Lineatus Wrasse

I acquired this Super male along with a female from a fellow RC member. The female is soooo scared, very stressed and hiding in the rocks by day. She has ventured out of her crevice once or twice a day to hover behind the rocks for a few minutes at a time but seems very scared to come out. I am not sure if she is feeding :(. She is, however, still alive, day 4. If and when she comes out I will try and snap a picture of her. Here is the lovely male hanging out :)

Thanks guys. Yep, this guy is definately all about the "super" :D. He seems pretty mellow but my Helfrichi pair is just so scared of his size :(. Both will come out to feed on most days since I added the pair but they are staying hidden for the most part. I am a bit bummed about this. He does not pay any attention to them but his size is intimidating. We shall see how things go for the pecking order and comfort level of all fish in the tank as time goes on.

Finally someone posts a picture of a wrasse that deserves the title "supermale". That is a beauty!!!! Good luck with him and I hope your female begins to get more comfortable. Keep us updated. Are the fish in a reef? If not I would keep the lights off for a couple of days. If you do have a reef keeping the lights off for day is completely fine and some would say it is beneficial. Regards, Tim

i think i might hate you for owning that fish...it is beautiful...
if the male is doing well the female should eventually come out...due to the fact that the male is out and about

Great fish. I've had two of them before. Make sure your tank is VERY well covered. Mine launched through an opening no larger than 1.5 inches square. Nothing like a piece of $175.00 wrasse jerky on the floor to make you sick.

Yes, firefish are easily intimidated by fairy wrasses. You may have to make a choice. But that is one gorgeous fish.

i had 5 helfrich with 10 or so fairies in a 180. Everyone did well until my temp spiked crazy high and i lost most. Once they get use to the fairies they will come out more and more and actually start to aggressively eat (atleast mine did) you shouldn't have a problem after the next month or so.

that is a nice terminal male. I have seen many and that ranks in the top 20 :) not to mention the good picture helps!

zenmuron114, the issue may be the smaller tank size with the firefish and lineatus. I had a 4" leopard wrasse(kuitari) and the helfrici's had no issues what so ever. This guy is a bit bigger and the tank is on the smaller size. One helfrichi is coming out for every feeding, the other did the first two days but has been hiding ever since. I know there may come a point where I have to choose but I am hoping that in time the helfrichi's will feel more comfortable.
rduong89, what I know of mystery wrasses is that they are quite aggressive and many of the fairy's are pretty passive, including the lineatus. This big guy is completely non-aggressive but his shear size is initmidating. He has not paid attention to any of the fish in the tank but the other fish, Picasso pair and one bangaii cardinal, are hanging out of his way toward the back of the tank. It should be a few weeks before all is sorted out and I will know if this is a success or not.

Thanks Mark,Underwaterparadise, and z's_N_p's :).

The female is still kicking in her hiding spots. One of the Helfrichi's was out this morning hanging around the females hidy spot and seemed alright. Then it went back in it's hole. One of the Helfrichi's has always been much more bold that the other of the pair.

I know the female lineatus moves around to different crevice spots during the day. I noticed the Male lineatus has been setting his night time cacoon spot very near the female, whereever she is at night. I think he wants her to come out and about as I saw him nudge her once in her crevice yesterday. She just kicked up some sand and wedged herself in tighter. When I acclimated them I had them in a 5g bucket together for about 2 hours and they hung out snuggled up to each other then. Since putting them in the tank the female has just hidden...swimming out and about in the rocks only once (that I caught) on the third day. This is day five in the tank. I still have hope that she is getting some morsels to eat when I feed to keep her strength up. She is one scared little muffin :(.

if you don't see any issues with the female, I'm quite confident that she will eventually come out.. sometimes, they can go more than a week without completely coming out... good luck again...
