My New SPS Reef

I keep hearing that chromis will kill eachother off after they mature. Do you have any experiences with that? I want to add a trio but keep hearing mixed results

Love your tank by the way! i cant wait to see the sps grow out a little bit

I've heard if you have them in a school of 5 or so they wont... as long as its a couple bigger than three.. never actually tried it but thats what I've heard

With the bio load you have already and as little rock as you have are you worried about your param's getting outta wack?

what kinda water change regimen do you have?

none the less qualifies for a minimalist aquascape

I don´t think I have a high bio load. My No3 and Po4 is zero. I change 10% a week with red sea salt

Very cool setup! Well designed post some new pics I would like to seee the progress! Frank!

I will, I´m working a lot, but I will take some new pics

wonderful

I used to have 3 chomis in my old tank for 3 years. But in this new one two of them gave a jump out of the tank. Now I have just one.

Denadai: Hope you are well and having a good new year.

How is the tank doing? Please provide a general update as to the progress of the tank and post some new photos. Thanks.

PS, here is my tanks build thread:

Hello Sahin, I will take some new pics and take a look at your thread

Happy new year !

Best Regards

Denadai,

Do you see any problem of using your overflow technique for returning the water to the tank?

No problem. You can do that with you want

I like your setup. Where did you get the float and little kalk reactor? Thanks!!

Thank´s guys !

This is my float, and I did a little kalk reactor, dripping all day long. I think this is a good ideia to keep ca and alk , easy to do, cheap and efficient.

The kalk reactor was a cool and genius DIY by Denadai, the float device can be bought from most hardware stores, ebay or some online fish stores.

Many thanks for posting the photos. Looks really nice. Got two questions:

1. What are you using for flow within the tank?

2. How do you feel the Sunpower is doing interms of colouring up the SPS?

Now I have one vortech MP 10 and one tunze 6045

About the colors, the word now is patience. Only after 6 months or more the colors will show up. I can´t explain why but is very hard to have nice colors in a young reef, even when everthing looks ok. I´m sure the sunpower will do the job

Best Regards

Thanks for the advice regarding the light/coral colour. That is something I am only beginning to realise. I will sure let my tank stabilise and see the outcome in 6 months time.

I cant wait to see what our tanks develope into in 6 months time! :inlove:

How much kalk powder do you put in that diy kalk? It looks like you have kalk powder sitting at the bottom. Usually, the Kalk mix instruction tell you to stir the kalk powder with water until the kalk power dissolved. Then drip it slowly. Please advise. Thanks.

Sereval times ? :celeb1: Now we will have to be patient , no news for a while

Yes, there is a yellow tube deep in to the reactor, so the water pass through the kalk powder

Now there is nothing to do, just wait the end of the NH4 cycle

My water test :

No2 : 1 ppm
No3 : 0.3 ppm
Po4 : 0.00 ppm
pH 8.2

Now when No2 hits 0.00 ppm I will add some corals and one fish to begin

Best Regards

I don´t know how much powder, but is not too much. Yes , there is kalk powder sitting at the bottom, this is how the DIY kalk works.

You can do like you said, but you will have to add kalk every day and mix with water and then drip. The way I do is also correct

The pH and alk going out of my DIY kalk is good enough for me, I did the test

Best Regards

Hi there Denadai:

Got a few questions about your tank again:

1. How high above the waterline is the ATI Sunpower hanging?

2. Did your tank go through any algae cycles?

Thanks.

Looking great Denadai! are you only using one tunze 6045 for the flow, is that enough for your tank? I have 4 of them in my 75gal, I still feel like I need more flow to avoid dead spots. what's the secret? please do share :) thanks
