My new tank is in (the garage)

Lar's, you missed my presentation at the last meeting, I mentioned things like calling all your buddies, friends, contacting everyone you know so things like that may not happen. But I have learned from experience too ;)

Nice stand BTW.

I know, I really wanted to go to that one. Two in a row I missed due to unforseen circumstances (ie moving, and car breakdown during moving...) :p Yea, i figure its part of the "development and research" costs of such projects. Make another one and it'll be half the cost. :)

Well, it's been some time since I updated this thread.

My tank didn't do so well after "Mr. Edison" decided to raise the cost of keeping a large reeftank on me. Since I don't have a chiller on my tank, and my wife usually had the A/C on in the house, I didn't have much to worry about. Then came the $600+ power bill!!! No more A/C. Over the months of July and August, my frags slowly bleached and passed on to the great rubble pile outside :(

Things are starting to look up since a few friends have given me a few frags to start over again (Thanks Dave B. & Dave P.) It's good to have friends in the club!

Speaking of the club, here's one of the ORA blue striped Dottybacks that I won in the raffle. It's been tough to photo this guy so far, but here it is:

It's a pretty cool fish, I've had it for about 3 weeks now. Just starting to come out more, and has always eaten well.

Now that things are doing better, I hope to update this thread more often :)

This little guy has decided to make the back wall plates his home. It's found a cave that I didn't know was there.

Sorry to hear about you losses Ken. I am glad to see that your tank is looking ujp though. Mr. TXU wasn't so kind out here either, I am glad that the temps have dropped drastically though so has my electricty bill. Now I I ahve the b=prob;em of trying to keept the temps from dropping. Las week my window was left open and the outside temp was 41 when I got home from work in the morning. My tank temp was 73...... I kicked on the Metal halides and warmed up the tank. I lost some frags I had just picked up from a reefer out here.
Hopefully next year we wont have such a heat wave over the US.
Talk to you later,
Brent Higa

Brent, nice to see you around again! I hope things slow down some at work so you can enjoy the upcoming holidays!

Please send me the link to your tank again, the one I wrote down put me into your router or camera setup, but no picture :(

Lar's, if your referring to my leaking pump, one was new and one was used. The used one is the one that is leaking.

Yea, I just got one of those blue ones from aquatic eco systems, used. I almost got a new Iwaki, but those blue pumps they have are a lot more effient, but I have no idea how much it was really used or how long I can expect the seals to last, but thus far this is the first I've heard of somone replacing the seals on one of those.

It showed signs of leaking when I got it, but it's almost run a year now and just started leaking (again). There is a thread somewhere that explains how to replace it, written by Mark (golfish).

I need to go find it!

Are those pumps pretty quiet? I noticed the 3600 was on discount on Marine Depot. My sweetwater is ok, but it vibrates a little, and is definitely more noisy than the Iwaki. With just the Iwaki running, the loudest part is the overflow. Too bad they dont make 4000gph magnetic drive pumps... :)

Lars, one of the reasons I went with these pumps is they are very quiet. No vibrations, no fan noise, just a real light hum. With two of them, you can barely hear a thing.

Cool, just what I wanted to hear! :) You have the 3600, right? Did you get them new? (I'm just doing a little price shopping at the moment...)

Hey Ken Happy New Year! I got the Ampmaster pump hooked up yesterday, plugged in it, and had to double check the connection because it was so quiet I couldnt tell it was on! I hate to say it, but its quieter than the Iwaki 55!

Silence is a wonderful thing when it comes to pumps!

Well, I put in a few new fish over the weeks. Picked up two Anthias and a Genicanthus lamarcki (Lamarck's Angelfish) at the Christmas party. Also, a new Copperbanded Butterflyfish because there one of my favorites.

I'll have to post some pictures when I get back from vacation.

Up north to a nice little beach for the rest of the week. This is the view I want for the next week:
