It's hard to tell who is happier, the Gig or the Clowns. I am trying to figure out what kind of species tank I may want to do...just getting back after a few years out. I like the idea of a species tank...your's is an inspiration. Nice work!!

Thanks for the compliments.. This tank has a big to go before it becomes an inspiration for anyone else... It's a work in progress! When about 6 months passes and all of my white rock is fully colored and beautiful, then we'll talk!

I'm hoping to find a Blue, and a Green Gig for this tank as well... I have plenty of room and 33% of the way there :-)

wow.....that's a beautiful gig xtlosx
I wish I had a tank big enough for that type of anemone. Nice to see it so happy and healthy in your system :)

Thank you!

Very, very nice. Trying to guess the perspective, how big is that monster?

Well, when lights are on and it isn't changing shapes constantly, probably 7-8"... With how the rock is and it positioned itself, a little part of it's oral dis is tucked into a rock some of the time... when it eats and feels like it, the fold gets pulled out with the rest of the body.. It's bizarre but how the Gig wants to position itself, so I am leaving it alone.

It has come a long way!

Thank you! I hope it coninues to progress and get darker. Tentacles are surely becoming bushier from the inside all the way to the outside.

How big in that tank

Waking up under slight radion blues, after getting a nice piece of krill soaked in Selcon.. What's weird is if you can tell in the pictures, how the one back part of the pedal tucked itself behind that rock... The rest is all out in the open, but the Gig takes it out sometimes to eat, then tucks it back in there... No clue what he's doing but I'm leaving him alone, seems happy and eats like a hog.

The one interesting this is, since I have started feeding the size of the nem in general has gotten bigger, and now starting from the rows by the mouth, the tip of the tentacles are getting darker purple, and now the rest of the tentacle going into the pettle has this yellowish color to it, so it's darkening up! The tentacles on the edge of the pedal are still translucent'ish but more darker since he came into our tank.... Hoping I'm past the might have to medicate him stage.

In the last picture you can see some of the tentacles up front getting darker too.. It seems as though from my observations, the tips get darker purple first, then the body of the individual tentacles gets that cream color, then my guess is it will darken completely when it regains all of its zoox. It gets fed Krill soaked in Selcon daily, and I just picked up some scallops. I'll soak those in Selcon and alternate.

Wow. Very impressive specimen. Congrats on making it through the opening stages. I haven't had the courage to even consider one yet.

Thanks... Honestly, if you can get a healthy specimen I don't believe they are much harder to keep than the others... it's just a matter of getting a healthy one that's all. They do love light and random heavy flow, that's for darn sure.

My next Gig I'm going to put on top of the same pillar directly under one the Radions and in the path of some random strong flow... Hoping to get another soon!

I know it sounds crazy, but be careful about feeding it to much. In the wild they eat when they can snag something or when their fish (like your clowns) bring them back something to eat. I am sure if you look when feeding the fish, you will see your clowns carrying some of the food back to their 'nem. I would give it a day or two off during the week where it isn't fed. I think they do need the occasional break.

Agreed. Since the initial worrying period is over and the zoox is coming back I am going to cut the feedings back. Selcon should help provide plenty of what it needs so it doesn't require food daily.

looking good Tom!! Hey one question, does it deflate on you at all? My nems deflate at times but gets back to size in a couple of days, any thoughts on this.

I can't say mine ever deflates except it gets a little smaller when it expels waste.. Even at night the size is maybe 30-35% smaller (and folds vertical with the way mine is positioned itself) than in the day time but when lights go on it gets huge again...

Honestly, I'm not going to be feeding mine daily, but likely go to 2-3 times a week.. The size has increased and I can see certain areas of tentacles getting a real real dark purple, and brown speckles throughout the middle of the tips. There aren't many translucent tentacles left, they either are long with a creme colored middle, of these brown specs... Zoox is coming back, and colors on the tips are coming back darker than ever, so it's rather neat.. right neat half of this neon blue'ish color the other parts are coming in dark purple. Can't wait to see this Gig in six months..

Regardless, I think that I'm passed the stage of worrying about the Gig. Mouth is never open, always tight, and eats like a hog.

Are yours gaining tip color of Zoox?

Mine did that, so I treated for four days and the gig has looked great since

Good job saving yours Jeff!

yes it is Tom, two gigs are eating regularly but the other two deflates alot I will post some pics soon on updates, it deflates at night also but seems alright during the day with lights on. I did not know they expel waste like that, ok thanks for the input Tom.
