My Quail and Pheasant pen diary.

Just thought I'd make a diary. The Quail/Pheasant pen is 90% finished! The only thing I need to do is: make nest boxes and finish up the rood then I'm finished!(I'm 95% finished with the roof) I already have an egg incubator. Here is a list of Quails/Pheasants I'm thinking of getting: 2 Reeves pheasants(male/female), 2 Lady Amherst pheasants(male/female), 2 Red Golden pheasants(male/female), 2 Chinese Ringneck pheasants(male/female), 2 Mandarin ducks(male/female), Bob white quails(not 100% sure how many), and Pharaoh Quails(not 100% sure on how many). Here are a few pictures of the Quails, Pheasants, and duck. I'm defiantly getting the Mandarin ducks and the quails, just not 100% sure on which pheasants I should get.(probably going to get 2 different types of pheasants.)

A friend and I are actually looking for an incubator right now, we want to raise ringnecks and release them in someones property and then come back pheasant season and get some wild pheasant (they will be wild after a few months if they don't get eaten by a coyote). There's really no public place to legally hunt pheasant in sac and the places that you can have no or a very little pheasant population. I haven't seen a wild pheasant in a few years it's kinda sad.Anyway where did you get your incubator at? Keep us updated and please post pics of your pen.

Nice! I got my incubator from Home Science Tools. I got mine with school money.(I'm home schooled) The incubator costs $69.95 plus shipping and tax. Here is a link. If you want I think I can hatch em for you. But I have to ask my dad first.

That looks like a pretty nice incubator, 42 duck eggs! Thats like 60-80 pheasant or chicken eggs.

We might get this incubator,
http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp...06|14608|28385?listingPage=true&Special=false

It's only $42 so that would mean extra money for the pen and eggs.

Thanks for the offer on hatching them for us but we should probably get an incubator if we are going to be raising lots of them.
Yeah, its nice.

Nice!!

Np, ok.

OMG i wants a Mandarin duck! they make my mallards look like cr@p XD

LOL

Nice! If you do get a few exotics, don't forget to post pictures!:D

I'm finished with the roof!! The pen is made out of VERY high quality steel, wood, chicken wire, and a ton of nails LOL The steel is very high quality, had to drill through it with a military grade drill bit and lots of motor oil. I tried drilling the steel with regular drill bits in the beginning, but the drill bits didn't do **** and the regular drill bit turned into crap for trying to drill through the steel. LOL

I'm going to be getting the the quail eggs today! I already set up the incubator and all.:dance: Can't wait! I ordered 50(+ extras) Northern Bobwhite quail hatching eggs.

I'm pretty sure. These guys are tiny anyways and don't make any loud noises like roosters. I'm also going to keep the pen nice and clean so it wont stink.

i know that in the county of sacramento it is legal to own farm foul as long as you own enough property. i am not sure how big but i know our half acre plot with a quarter acre being the back yard is in the clear and we can keep farm foul legally (i have ducks and chickens).

Thanks, but my brittany has enough on her plate chasing squirrels and doves all day. She does like the ditches at her pheasant club though ;) Good luck.
