My RBTA and Blue Carpet

got2envy

hello fishy fishy
Just wanted to post some pix of my 2 anemones, they are by far the favorites in both my tanks..I am upgading to a 125g at the end of the month here are the pix

My RBTA, I have had it about a year now..it is hosted by a rather large Maroon clown that started hosting the minute the anemone hit the water lol It is about 15" across when fully inflated, it is in a 75g under T-5's

My blue carpet was bleached when I bought it, I did not know any better  it was an impulse buy..I then did alot of reading and found out it is a Gigantea. The first 2 months I had it under PC's while it recovered, it is now under T-5's in a 40 long. I bought it mainly for my 2 false percs but they never tried to host it and it is now hosted by an anemone crab

The RBTA gets 2 cubes of Prime Reeef every week and the Carpet gets 1 cube a week and shares with the crab

Thanks for looking :)

beautiful anemones, Maria.
Do you plan on putting both anemones in the 125?

IME equads and gigantea don't get along together particularly well in the same aquarium. It would be a shame to lose either one.

Thanks Gary :)

I was planning on moving both, but may have to rethink what I will do as the reason for upgrade is so that I am not running 2 seprate tanks

It hurts to know eventually my carpet will out grow my 125 and was thinking of selling it to a good home. It is the size of a soft ball right now

Those are beautiful anemones. You've done a great job with both of them, especially the way you have brought the gigantea back. I don't have a gigantea, but I don't think that it would outgrow a 125 gallon tank. It might be less an issue of size and more an issue of incompatibility putting both of those anemones in the same aquarium. With some species (or individual anemones) it seems that allelopathy (chemical warfare) occurs.

i ask because i have been keeping a gigantea with 4 BTA's in my 120S. the gigantea lives on one side of the tank and the BTA's live in a colony on the other side of the tank. while i was doing some aquascaping shortly after getting the gigantea they touched and i could tell they weren't going to be good neighbours but didn't suspect allelopathy and was more concerned with nematocysts.

any thoughts???

great looking nems by the way :)

Thanks for looking guys!
I am hoping I can work something out to keep both :D
the hubby is gonna keel over lol

lol no he is not...he is a gun lover :D

My BTA killed a condy when I first got it...it decided that the rock the condy was on was way to comfy, has not moved from that rock since..knock on wood

Nice job got2envy! You can clearly see the zooxanthellae growth in the pics. The gigantea looks very healthy now with a nice brown color. You initially began under lower lighting because of the lack of zooxanthellae?

Yes, I knew it was bleached and could not handle the amount of light in my other tanks so I had set up a 20g with PC lighting and let it recover for a couple of months making sure it was eating, before moving it to T-5 lighting 12 hr photo period
It seemed to get even happier once the crab started hosting it :D

Very nice pics. How do you like that porcelain crab? I've never had one before, but they seem fascinating. Did it find the anemone or did you put it on the anemone when you got it? Do they have to acclimate to anemones the way clowns do or do they just jump right on and stay?

I had the crab first , it was hosting some xenia at the time then when I added the carpet into the 20 it found it all the way across the tank, I did notice that it molted that night and now it molts less frequently.
It jumped right on, I am sure it acclimated some how tho I just did not notice as the carpet is super sticky. It will not let any fish including the 2 false percs that I got it for anywhere near it..it opens it's claws at them lol

I love the crab and am not one bit mad at it for hsting the carpet, it is a very cool critter to have if you get one :)
