My Reef Creations fluidized bed chamber

Has anybody purchased the fluidized bed filter from MRC? My question is the build and the materials they use they build them with. I am about to get a large bamboo shark from a friend and I need this filter to increase the biological filter to prevent ammonia spikes etc. Does anyone have any comments on these fluidized bed chambers from my reef creations. The two elbows on the lid look flimsy. Are these units built well for durability???

Their skimmers are built like tanks, so I'd imagine their other equipment is built as well. Sorry I have no personal experience with that actual piece of equipment.

I have one and it is SUPERDUTY. The unions allow for quick disconnecting. Cleaning and replacing media is a breeze. Even the smaller unit holds a LOT of media. The acrylic is 1/4" thick. I use mine for carbon.

Most people dont use fluidized bed filters, they would rather use live rock instead. The bacteria population will probably balance out and you will not need a fluidized bed filter. How much live rock do you have?

Live rock isn't that good for bacteria... fluidilized bed is very good for bacteria.

I'm betting he won't have alot of rock because of the shark.

I will not have too much live rock in the tank and it would be impossible to fit the remainder of liverock in the sump because of the minimal space available. I want to increase the biological filter as much as possible without the large quantity of liverock that takes way too much room and the ditritus it collects. It would be algae city. Has anyone saw the MTV Cribs episode with big boy, the member from Outkast??? They showed his fish only tank with a various tangs and lionfish and even a nurse shark. In his tank he has almost no live rock with a large sand bottom area. This is how my tank is going to look like.
