My Reefing journal...

btw i called you earlyer. im going to be around your way on sunday for sure.

Yeah the rock looks like its been there forever...
I just seen a missed call, wasn't sure who it was. I thought I put your name on the contact but I guess not... That's cool, I'll see you Sunday buddy.

I swapped out TLF reactor for a Vertex UF-15 reactor and I must say I do like the tumble a lot better, especially since I added more Bio-Pellets and the valves are some what closed and still the tumble is great...
Thanks Harry for the barb fitting and the hose.

Great looking tank BIG LA, quick question, you stated that you recently switched out your bio-pellet reactor from TLF to Vertex UF-15, what pump are you using for the reactor? I too am using bio-pellets and so far, I have been successful with them. I would like to see the pellets tumble a little more though and have been thinking of also switching to the Vertex. Thank you.

Thanks Noel... I'll be changing that sig once I get home.

Vitodog I actually switched the reactors and just tee'd off my main pump with a valve... If you make the change your going to notice that the vertex reactors don't need a bunch of flow to make the pellets tumble ( I'm not saying that other reactors won't do the same or better I'm just speaking on my experience...).

LoL... I know, but the light change has really done a number on some of my coral that I guess have been use to t5 lights only...

So I wake up and I'm about to get ready for Church, when I walk by the living room and take a quick glance at my tank everything seemed good... But thank God to tank-instincts, it was like something was pulling me to it.
I open up the cabinet and see that the water is low my pump was sucking up air. So I spring into action and start to put some water in my top-off tank, but it hits me... I just did this 4 days ago, this tank shouldnt be empty. When I look up I can see my brace is almost completely underwater. I look up top and I have maybe a quarter of an inch from the rim...
That was scary...

Wow and why was it this way?

Wow and why was it this way?

From the description, I would guess a clogged or partially clogged drain. Lucky the sump was not so large as to overflow the display.

Big L A, Good job looking into the tank. I try to carefully observe my tank at least twice a day to catch problems like this. Just today I noticed my temperature running a little low and found one of the heaters had stopped working.

Good catch on your part.

Thanks Gary... Jarrett, I found a snail in the drain pipe. Problem solved... Good catch by you Gary, its crazy how we develop a six sense for our tanks...

I totally agree and I can usually spot a different kind of sound or smell too. I have found that you should not dismiss anything that you find as a little out of order. Can save your bacon many times by paying close attention.
