My Resurrected Nanocube Baby Clownfish Tank

Well I was somewhat bored when I got back home in January so I decided to set up my old 12g nanocube dx. I figured I would leave my 29G at home since I only had 6 months left at school, so this would keep me busy down here. Then I got the idea after talking with some people in the BAR forum to raise some baby clownfish. My pair in my 29G were a few months old when I got them, but were taught how to host a RBTA early on.

So after letting the tank cycle for over a month, I picked up about a dozen baby Ocellaris clowns about a month ago. Here are some pictures from last week:

I got them from a guy out here that breeds clowns as a hobby. I can't believe how long it takes them to get to what would be considered "market size" (ie an inch or so)--something like 8 months. These guys are about 2 months old right now and the largest are only the size of my pinky fingernail.

But the main thing I am doing is "teaching" these guys to host a RBTA, which took them about 12 hours to learn haha. It was interesting because they were being stung and stayed away from the anem for about 4 hours or so, then when I woke up, they were all in the anemone.

Well my first clown that I got about 4 years ago (despite being tank raised) never seemed to care for bubble tip anemones so I spent time looking around to see if anyone knew a way to "teach" them to host properly. I ended up getting referred to a couple people in my area and found that it is quite easy to get them to host---as long as they are at a very young age.

Ideally, I will move them into my Dad's 90G since he has wanted hosting clowns for awhile now. But I got these guys at 1 month old, so if I put them into the tank, they surely would have been eaten or sucked into the overflow. I don't think they will be ready to make the move until Summer when I move this tank home.

If anyone has been to the Waikiki aquarium they have an awesome exhibit with a family of Perculas that have all the "family" dynamics that you would see in nature (ie 1 dominant female, 1 dominant male, and subordinate males/juveniles).

I have to say you are very tallented in the picture taking department. Very nice tank. You will really enjoy watching them grow. I know I've really enjoyed my clown family (they are over 18 months old now).

You should link this thread with the clownfish forum. I know they would enjoy it.

Luckily they're ocellaris and not percula...you'd be waiting a whole lot longer for them to come of age. They don't even start getting the second bar until about 2 months, and even then can sometimes take over a year before their bars fully develop.

Yeah but I have 1 10k and 1 50/50 so hopefully the PAR is a little higher. I do feed silversides though and everything seems to be going well.
