Don't have too much current. Keep the light low. Don't feed him. It will do more harm than good. Anemone will shrink but won't die if you doon't feed them, not like fish where then get thin and starve. Anemone just get smaller.
Sometimes the best cure is to just leave them alone, messing w/ them often just irritates them.
Change 100 percent of the water daily, make sure when changing the water the anemone is not exposed to any air. How did you measure you antiboitics? Weight on a gram scale??
Well the trick is to put a Tupperware bowl or container that you can put the anemone in if its unattached. if its attached you can flip your rock upside while holding it underwater and have the anemone hang in the water in the container while the piece of live rock is exposed to air. The trick is to have an extra hand.
Let me know if that makes sense....
If i were dosing i would have used between 20-50 mg per gallon of anti-biotic in the water. Its always good to have a gram scale around the house.
Dose the tank, not the anemone. You need to consider the whole tank as the animal because the antibiotic just dissolves in the whole tank. If the water weight 1/2 you, then give it1/2 the dose you would take.
Heater is essential for the treatment tank.
Use Baycol. Penicillin is too narrow in spectrum. If you have the outdated Baycol, just use that.
I would not change all the water. Just part of it. How much your guess is as good as mine.
i have more success with my new anemones by just let them be than to worry and do all kind of things to the tank or the anemone.
If you don't change all the water your ammonia is going to rise through the roof! Believe me i have gone through this before when dosing Doxycycline.
Enrofloxacin which is Baycol may be a better choice but dont the effects of high ph in a reef tank may make is less effective.... We need an expert to confirm.
He had 5 or 6 people telling him to leave it alone and he couldn't. The photos looked fine to me and "dark pellets" mean it was expelling zooxanthellae - which is a common reaction when you introduce a clown anemone to a new environment.
As soon as people start experimenting on their creatures with medicines I have to duck out because I have no idea what they are doing (nor do they).
Oh well, better luck next time.
how'bout erythromycin instead of enrofloxacin?
There is a huge difference between people that have experience in this case dosing with antibiotics and people reading a thread on doing so.
Not sure if your comment was directed at me....
Im not sure on that one buddy. Again IMO if I was at that stage where I was treating with antibiotics I would use Doxycycline.
