Well, the battle started last night.
Finished plumbing in the UV sterilizer at 3 a.m. or so. 114 watt aqua... rated to sterilize water at flow rate of 1300 gph. All of the water from my return is going through here. Tonight, I vacuumed the side of the tank where the sick fish sleep, assuming the tomonts are probably well established over there. I pulled the standpipes out and vacuumed right into my overflow box.
The tomonts will hopefully get caught in the filter socks, set up shop in the sump where there are no fish and starve, and / or get cooked by the UV on the way back to the display.
The hospital tank is set up. I also will plumb this 40 watt UV sterilzer and put copper in this tank. Ultimately, I will filter this with an old sump and sterilize the water coming back to the tank... putting the live rock down in the sump.
Finally the tricky part. Catching that purple tang before the trophonts fall off his body. I see less spots today, optimistically, hoping the cleaner shrimp picked some off. Here is my fish trap. He is ignoring it. Maybe tomorrow when they are hungrier they will go in and take a look.
I got some "reef safe" ich medicine from my LFS which is some homeopathic tea extract supposedly containing some quinine like substance. This was mostly to make me feel better (maybe mixed with some scotch). Anyway, I put it in the tank and the water turns quite brown. This will work against the UV sterilzer... so... I will probably skip this part of the treatment.
