My SPS Reef

This is one of the few Led lit sps tank that convince me you can have great colors with leds !!
can you tell us more about your DIY setup ?
(sorry if I missed it )

yes, its no problem at all, there's not much to it compared to some diy setups on here, mine is 90 3W Bridgelux LEDs, 60 of them are royal blue and 27 are cool white, there is 3 UV leds also, i have them evenly spaced across 4 4ft aluminum channels for a fuller coverage, i run the blues and UVs at 90% intensity for 12 hours and the whites at about 70% intensity for 8 hours daily. i use 80 or 90 degree optics on some of the leds and leave some without, par tested anywhere for 400-500 up just above the rocks and anywhere from 150-300 on the sand depending where in the tank, i found by varying some leds with optics and some without i was able to get the look i was looking for and still get high par numbers up top and down low.

So 5g/week on a 90g tank, right?

yes its a 90 gallon tank with external overflow and around 20-30 gallons more in a custom sump.

Wow your tank looks amazing, it really is an inspiration for me to archive good colours with led's, thanks for sharing.

thank you very much, i attribute my success more with keeping nutrients low and parameters stable, i use bio pellets, gfo, and a big skimmer to remove nutrients and i feed the tank rather heavily which i think is the key for the good coral colors in my tank.

Technically my 90 is a month old, but everything was transferred from my 60g which was established for about 2 years. So I think the 90g is still stabilizing. Finally got my NO3 at undetectable :D PO4 is a little high (somewhere between 0-0.25ppm) Test kit is not that exact.

how many fish do you have in there? Looks like 15 or so plus a cleaner shrimp? that about right? What kind of CUC do you keep?
Thanks for sharing all the pictures btw, it's an inspiration!

Thank you very much.

I have less than 15 fish, I'm around a dozen, I'm in the process of switching my larger fish out for more small ones tho, cuc is some snails and some hermits from reef cleaners 2 years ago, whatever is left is what i have, nassarius snails are great for your sand bed, I also have a sifting star fish in there

figured i'd throw up a few more photos today, i just picked up a Black Foxface fish and a new frag from the LFS. so heres a couple close ups and a tank shot

Is that green monti cap really two toned like it looks in the photo?
Cool..

no its just a bright green cap, sold as sour apple monti cap. i see what your seeing tho, i believe its just the spot lighting between white and blue LEDs i get from it being so close to the surface. theres a top down of it back on the last page.
