My tank after 1 year.

That Crab has a bad reputation, and the spot where he "lives" is white and I can barely see the polyps, but my kids love those guys, and the last time I took one out they gave me hell!!! And besides the Mille grows so fast .......

The pics are pure luck!!! I did get a new camera to take FTSs but I just suck at it!!!

Regards.

Whoaaa...gosh...those pics are exceptional bro...trully spectacular....you have the skill...dont call it luck :)

The corals are looking ever so happy to be in your care...cant say it, enuff your husbandry technique is flawless!

Could you please outline what additives you are dosing on a regualr basis AND
which additves you are dosing on a need to use basis for paramater adjustments.

thanks for sharing this beautiful tank :)

Very nice corals, and beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing.

What kind of sand do you use?
Thanks do much! I use a sand that according to the LFS it was the same brand as the rocks, but had no brand in the bag, two things I like about it, it's not white, so I don't get clinical about it been darker sometimes, and the most important, grain sizes, it's very uniform and they are all about 3-4mm, I took a 3mm screen and screened everything, I tossed what went trough, I have to place the vortechs very low to have some movement, but they never get blown.I beleive I have something close to the premium grains size you can find from most brands.

Sick color wow great job

Cheers!!

Hey Noob, really I see all those great photographers with those amazing cameras working hard to get nice results, and I don't even now what ISO means, I feel obligated to tell that I'm not responsible for it, technology is! But thanks for the compliments, if you keep saying that I'll start believing it's true!!!:lolspin:

I don't really dose anything on a daily basis, until a week ago I was not here for 2 weeks every month, so I basically tried to bring everything back to normality in the course of those 2 weeks that I was present. What I normally do is, a 10% water change using H2Ocean, I keep calcium at 420-450, and my calcium reactor does a great job keeping those levels, when it gets to 420 I raise it using Brightwell's powder calcium, I have something like 20% of aquacrown Mg in my reactor, and I never had to increase the Mg levels I's steady at 1300, I kept Alk at 8~9 for a long time, and since I will be around from now on I decided to lower it to 7~8 to see what will happen. I keep K at 380~400 using Brightwell's powder K, my Iodine levels are at 0,06, I used to maintain it at 0,08 but I got a redsea test and it doesn't display 0,08. The Iron level is at 0,15 I also use Brightwell's ferrion to raise it, and feed a lot with my own frozen recipe, that helps a lot I tried feeding my corals but honestly I'm not convinced that they are benefiting from that.

Best,

Renato.

Hey Renato
Thanks sooo much for your patient reply.
Nice to know that you aren't dosing much additives and keeping things basic. That's the way to go!!
Interesting factor that you are dosing K. Something iv bit overlooked and I need to pay some attention!!
And yes il say it again you have the camera skill coz its proven again "its not the camera that matters but the man behind it and his skill" :D

Hey Noob,
You are most welcome, the K in my tank gets depleted quickly maybe because of the BPs, that's why I like to keep track of it.
And after reading your post I took the camera and shot 1000 pics and I must say...nahh It's the camera!!:lolspin:

Regards,

Renato.

Youve done an amazing job for being gone so much. Cant wait to see how things progress with you around to give it your full attention!

Also, you say the cymos(acro crab) dont do anymore damage than where they live? I got one on a wild coral and it had made a trail thru the coral of dead tissue. I watched it eating the flesh of the coral which even made it slime up. He was happy to gobble the slime too...I removed him. shame, they are neat and those eyes are so cool! Bet your kids do love them, cant you explain that they are bad for the coral? How old are they(your kids)?

Hi Chris,

If you take a closer look at the picture of the coral where he lives you will notice that there's a white spot, but you still can see the polyps, he came in a wild coral I got, and it immediately moved to that Milli and stayed there, I often catch him wondering around at night but he goes back and stays there most of the time. He never did that kind of damage you state yours did and that's the reason why he is still there, if he starts damaging anything my kids and him will be mad at me but he will be gone! I also not encourage anyone who has those buggers to keep them, there's been many episodes like yours and that points to the fact that this one may be one good guy in a million.

Regards,

I'ts a shame, those gorila crabs look so cool.

Ok that pic of u holding those crabs shivered mi timbers translate into hair on it's end.
It's just spooky for me I can never handle em like that. Crabophobia? :D
I told ya these hairy guys suck big time and those crabs are like huge!!
There will be more...once the dominant one is gone the tiny ones will start poppin out!
The tiny ones are a pain to get out. I had a couple in my frags. Since I'm too chicken to handle them, I shook the frag, blew hard into it and after a bit of struggle "plop" fell the tiny guy into the bucket :D
But if ya like em crabs so much there are some much better looking ones, clean and shaved acro crabs(unless u like hairy :D) comes in light tones. I have one in my bigger colony. No harm done by it just roamin around the frag. Your kids will love em and so will ur coral.
Iv found em very common in the bigger cultured corals.

lol sorry!
:furious: lol

Crabophobia :lolspin:,Those are my 6 yrs old daughter, and that's why they look so huge, in did not fancy to hold them in my hands, creepy buggers :o.
You got it right, this morning I saw another one on the same acro, it looks different, it's not hairy but it has black claw tips, I'll try to get a pic. Luckily the acro is loose, no problem removing it and dipping. But let's see if this one is ok first.
