My Tank Thread (Take3) ★Total AUTOMATION★ DIY Doser, Sump, AlgaeScrubber, WaterChnges

But I think frags are going to fail the encrustment test.
I haven't look closely but you said by this weekend there should be some.
Maybe a bit longer to allow more acclimatization and stable lighting.
How much should there be. Tiny bit?

Wally, two weeks at the earliest. May take longer.

I know what might help.

I can crack open my DECEMBER Time Vault.

Mix up a Magic Potion using a Ton of each product and dose 4 times a day, 2 times a night.

JUST KIDDING!!!! :) [[[ NOthing but Water changes and A/B dosing for now ]]]

Believe it or not, I'm not even using anything, Anymore, in Frag tank (just Reef Roids).

I'll pull out the Camera and have a Peek at the $7 frags, to see if any have started encrusting. (Two week mark has just passed)

Even a tiny bit of entrustment will be another step forward.

Some Encrustment Starting (FRAG #02 - Sunset Mille-A)

This Millie one is the most obvious encruster. The rest not so much.

Much better then Frag Plug Encrustment RECEDING I was getting before.

SPS TANK (All Frags) New MH Lights [ Reference Photo 2017-10-18 ]

One more All Frag Photo (Under new MH Bulbs) : (Including the Special Newbies: Ice Fire, PacMan, Bubble Gum, Sunset, Deep Blue Spa and Gomei )

You can see how Particulates has cleared up, compared to before.

Yeah that Green Monti at Top is Pale and recovering.
Darn Mexican Turbo knocked it off, and I found it under rocks after who knows how many days.

Turbo may have to go into Sump, Frag Tank, before I mount these special Frags.

Reference Photo ( Kitchen Tank ) Post PH Recovery [ 2017-10-18 ]

I never took any Photo's of Kithchen Tank (Hard ever do)

It was also Affected by the Air-Line Rupture (Same Airline) (PH swings), but not as much.

It is recovering as well. Greatest Noticeable Damage it the Bottom Right Aussie Torch. (Left of the Bottom Trumpet)

37753354396_c26a5e25e9_h.jpg

Having Learned a Hard Lesson on PH Stability, I'm running an Dedicated Airline for FRAG tank. CDX (Soda Line) isn't going to last forever.

Spectrum Shield (Medicated Pellet) Paly Control (Unwanted Soft Coral Spread)

I forgot to mention this!!! THE KITHCHEN TANK photo Reminded me.

When I had that ICK problem with the Powder Brown Tang which died, I tried to save it with the Medicated Spectrum Shield Pellets.

37131586143_71a11834c7_q.jpg

Instructions CLEARLY say not to allow any of the pellets to be consumed by corals.

I didn't really care about my Green Paly's, so some landed on them and they ate the Pellets (reluctantly).

I noticed weeks later Paly's Detached and Floating around.

Here is one Paly I saw today.

37801770121_4920caf99a_o.jpg

So the Shield Pellets are toxic to corals.

I used to control my Paly Spread by Zapping them with an Apastia Electrode Zapper.

This is better. I just force feed any unwanted Paly's with a single pellet.
They eventually detach and I scoop them up.

This is a theory, that I need to prove with some more Target Feeding of the Pellets.
I have to be careful not to let the Pellets Float around and land on any wanted coral. (Paly's do always close up around a Pellet (first time), but appetite dropped on 2nd Attempt)

If it works, it will be amazing, since Zapping or Cutting [Certain] Paly's/Zoa's can be DANGEROUS (Due to PalyToxin, which is VERY Poisonous, and even DEADY ( To Humans and Animals/Pets !!) )

CO2 Scrubber (CDX PLUS) Fresh Air Line (INSTALLED) FRAG TANK

All done. Easy job in open basement ceiling.

37093066894_2d253f0d1a_c.jpg

For now let's see the two working together. Will PH go over 8.1?

After test period, I'll remove CDX CO2 Scrubber Reactor.

I'm really scared, but not panicking yet.

Was in a really good mood yesterday and started plan to step away from SPS tank (since all looked in order)

This morning I noticed right away, the Gomezi Frag. Even with no lights on.

It doesn't look good. Little spots of Bleaching on some tips.
Has some PE in good spots.

37766269596_2c49e3108d_o.jpg

I haven't touched a thing. Except increasing photo period once by 30 minutes. Did one water change two days ago. All parameter were good.

NO OTHER FRAG is showing any negative signs.

I will go back thru history of photo's, since I never paid much attention to the Gomezi.

** ONE THING I NOTICE is that Bristle star is running the FRAG rack and constantly reaching out with Tentacles. Same one that MAY HAVE started killing that Monti I threw out (not sure if he did that) ***

So I lifted each Plug (not removing from Tank) and found two on a plug.

37766418496_4e5a75f243_z.jpg

I yanked them.

Correction. Almost every Plug has the bristle stars.

37783336402_6a126856ce_z.jpg

I'm pulling every one I find and holding in jar.

Did some research.

Appears Brown Bristle / Serpent stars are harmless. Filter feeders and the Rack appears to be a good place to catch particulate food.

Checked my Gomezi past photo's.

It was doing well up to the day I changed bulbs. But that is not conclusive.

But reading more about Gomezi's. They can be a hit and miss.

I know this isn't a good idea (in General), but I have many more Frags that I have hopes for.

It's starting Slow STN (for whatever reason).

SHOULD I MOVE IT TO FRAG TANK?

For now I moved it to Far Right on Frag Rack (Left side is kind of a dead spot on circulation). Better flow to blow off that sediment on right side.

Really hard to diagnose when only one piece shows problems..
Seems like an isolated thing to me, so far.
Little more flow is a good idea.
If it’s stning, you could dip it again..
I wouldn’t worry too much, Wally. You’ve added a lot of new corals.

I never dipped it. What do you mean dip it? Revive?

I did a full compare. It's not too bad, but I think it need more circulation since that left side as I mentioned is a bit of a far reach for Circulation.

It appears to be building up cobwebs, and that is what may have caught my attention (since every OTHER FRAG/Plug is sparkly squeaky clean)

Sorry, I have to stop looking at the frags so closely.

Take a step away for a couple of weeks.
Thing are a good as they will ever be.
What happens, happens.

Hm.. so, you aren’t dipping all your sps frags in something like revive before adding them to the tank..
crap,, how did we overlook dipping frags before adding them to the tank..
I am not a fan of revive. It kills too many corals in my experience...
I much prefer the outdoor lawn pesticide called Bayer.

I wish I could get some Bayer. I tried. Only available in US and last time I looked doesn't ship to Canada. Will look again.

I do have some API Melafix (but haven't used it for ages).

I usually did dip in Revive, but since I get most my corals from Thang GTAreef, it comes from a Clean System (not exposed to weekly Wild Shipments).

Also I had a bad experience with Revive. Learned that thin skin SPS like Red Dragon's can't be dipped for very long. I kill one doing Revive. Died overnight and Thang told me that's a no-no.

I'll look into finding Bayer Dip, but these Frags are in, and pointless to add more Frags till they do well (I assume dipping is for new frags only, but you mention Dips are good for a quick clean up if stress, or disease is noticed)

Anyway. I stepping away from this tank (LOOKING at FRAG close up). TWO week minimum

Looking at Frags daily will stress me, maybe in two weeks I'll be surprised with some good progress.

Going to clean up my Tank Workshop, and tidy up wiring since things got a bit messy with adjustment, but now things are locked in.

LAST QUESTION:

Since I hardly had PE in past. When at SPS start STN, does it show stress first (ie Loss of PE), or can PE continue and STN still happens.
I ask this since that Gomezi has PE.

I hate revive. As I said it kills too many corals..
Melafix is my next fav. But I don’t remember dosage..
Corals can certainly have pe while they stn or rtn.
I can’t seem to get Bayer anymore either. I used to be able to find a shipper on amazon .com but not anymore..
I was going to suggest big show frags... shoot! I’ll have to get my buddy to bring some back from the States in his next trip..
That gomezi looks super healthy when it firstcam in and definitely doesn’t look as good now. You said it had cobwebs- that could be one of this worms you scraped off another frag a couple weeks ago. Any sign of a worm anywhere?
Gomezi can be tricky.. so again, if the majority seem good, don’t go crazy.

Deep Blue Acro (BAKE OFF) Frag Tank VS Display Tank

I refuse to even look at the Frags in DT.
Walking by I glance the other way. Seriously.
That Gomezi kept getting worse, so I just moved him to Frag Tank.

Anyway, the two Blue Acros I got are being compared.

Interesting to see how two tanks are different.

23990606438_26a4acff32_c.jpg

Both are healthy.

The FRAG tank has only 1x 150W MH bulb at 10" above water.
PARS are around 250.
Good flow
Water changes from DT
Feeding Reef Roids ever few days, plus the Nori Poo from Cowrie.

It's more purple that in Photo, but is certainly Browning.

The SPS TANK Frag is keeping its color, and I would say PE is slightly less.
PARS I would say the SAME since it's off to the side. Touch higher.

No Stress (NO Looking at Frags) Good or Bad [ 2 Weeks]

So it's hard not to look at the Frags Tank is built into my Office Wall.

Not much I can do for them anyway.

I masked all the Frags (except the Deep Blue Acro for the FT vs DT compare)

Thin Tank backing taped on glass. I can still clean with Magenet cleaner.

Left the (Pacman and Fire Ice exposed on left) to have something of interest.

I'll peel off the MASK in two weeks. (As see progress...Hopefully some encrustment)

37160707004_969ed9bce8_c.jpg

This will be less stressful to me and good for Frags too.
