My true perc is destrying my new purple LTA!!!

xenon

Owner of Canada Corals
It took her about 4hrs to start hosting in it and she began to thrash her body into it.

Then she started pulling the tentacles off and it got to a point that I had tentacles flying all over the tank.

I put a glass bowl over it for now to give the LTA a break.

What should I do?

You could put a plastic colander over it or something similar to keep the clowns away and allow the water to flow through.

I did that already. Did you read my thread? :D

I am trying to figure out why she is doing it.

She has been without an anemone for about 6months now. Maybe she got too excited.

Another idea is that the more she was thrashing in it the more the tentacles were deflating and those were the ones she was ripping at. Maybe she thought the tentacles were dead and was doing it a favour? lol

I obviously don't have a clue.

There is a difference, a glass bowl won't let any water through -- restricting water movement, and keeping stagnant water around the anemone.

Yes I did read what you wrote. Like Toddrtrex pointed out, I was trying to say the anemone needs good water flow and still be protected from the clowns to be happy.

If she's being that rough now, I doubt she'll stop any time soon. It looks like the anemone is just not big enough to host such a big clown. Either keep the clowns away from it for a while and try again later or trade that anemone in for a bigger one.

I am very happy to report that everything is ok.

I took the bowl off while she was hosting in my frogspawn at night. She moved back to the anemone within 30mins and she was playing nice.

It's been 24hrs and so far she has not ripped off a single tentacle!

WOOT!!!

I would feed your Nem frequently and try to get it as large as you can as quickly as it will grow. Clowns can be very hard on Nems and kill them easily if they are not large enough.

That is the only problem I am having right now.

My LTA wont eat. I tried small chucks of krill and spot fed it mysis with a turkey baster and it does not react. Not a good sign. :(

Try something smaller, like cyclopeeze instead of larger food items. If the nem takes that you are in better shape than a large piece of shrimp.

Neat video. Looks like you have mysis swimming around in there.

I concur. They kill them with kindness.

nice video. I'd do you anemone a favor and try feeding it de-shelled shrimp chunks. That's my nem's favorite (along with cuttlefish)
beautiful specimen.
