My veggie clip can barely hold against my tangs.

I clip a couple pcs of nori for my tangs and angel every day. But I'm getting tired of doing it because by the time they get to half a sheet, the nori has already fell off the clip. How are you guys clipping your nori? My purple tang have a tendancy to nibble on the edge closer to the clip and that isn't helping either.

The problem I've noticed with feeding Nori is that it's processed and not a complete sheet, so it will dissolve and break apart in water in no time. The nori that's sold for fish comes in a denser form so it doesn't fall apart as fast as the food nori that everyone's using. So no matter what clip you use, it's not the clip, it's the nori, and as my marketing line goes for my marine plants "Nori is not enough for Dory!"

Feeding it flake style sounds like a good idea. :) My clip is pretty new.

Will feeding the tangs fresh seaweed be any good? There's a chinese market where I know they have fresh seaweed daily. One annoying thing is that a lot of times they're tied into a knot. I can buy a small bag and freeze it, then thaw it a few every few days and feed them that.

I used to feed them chaeto too but I think the cheato is a little harsh for them to digest. Feels like fishing lines.

Reeds carries a what i believe is tang haven algae. I won some in raffles at BAR meeting and Seabay swap. My tangs chowed down on the algae they love it . Just dropped it into the tank. no clip required.

Not sure about the fresh seaweed in the market, but I guess I can try a piece the next time my mom buys some to cook. My tang loves Bryopsis, but he ate all of it! He ignores the Caluerpa Prolifera, and has munched on some chaeto. Spirulina flake it is for now.

Dann-

I have fed my unicorn tang seaweed that I have purchased from Mermaid.

Oh my gosh.. First the fish were scard of it but the new one hide in it. Then once one fish-who doesn't even eat it, decided to take a bite there was no looking back from there.

The tang rips it apart and eats as much as she can. and continues to eat it all day/night whenever. the only bad thing I can say is that I put the whole bunch in there and she happily eats and makes a mess..

She likes it much more than any other seaweed I have ever purchased.

try using those clips with the plastic webbing that holds it in place. might be a bit better.

goodluck

Fold the nori sheet up into a matchbook size clump and it will last longer in the clip. My tangs seem to nibble the nori off the clip if I don't do that. Then it just floats away and ends up in the sump or overflow. I find the clip holds on better when the nori is thicker.

I've been folding it twice only, will do a few more folds to see what happens. Maybe I should reduce the amount that's being exposed. I leave maybe 6" floating around all the time.

I was saying leave about 1-2". Think match book. It is easier to see how much the tangs are eating this way as leftovers will stay on the clip.
