I finally got some real work done on the tank. Measured carefully for all the under-substrate OM outlets and plumbed them in. Started with sch 80 in case it shows and then went to sch 26. The white bottom is a 1/16" sheet of polyethylene for added bottom protection from rocks and rock stands.
The uprights will be removed for final finish nozzles. They are just there to keep sand out of threads.
1,040 pounds of sand later and Bob's Your Uncle. Yahoo, makin water (slowly).
Sand is a nice even 5" deep and the OM outlets will be strategically hidden if I'm lucky. Finishing the temporary sump plumbing. It's working out nicely. Pics on that later.
Love this build, been silently following all along! I am considering a wood tank build myself, but at about half the size. It seems like the best way to get exactly what I want with out going broke!
Did you consider any other brand of epoxy? There are many out there, the west system seems to be the most popular, but also the most expensive?
I am trying to put together a materials list for my tank based on how much you have used.
Bart, I've got about 300# from my last tank and I picked up 2 large pieces of lace rock that are really interesting. I'll get started with that and cherry pick some special pieces down the road.
Fiziksgeek-I was familiar with West System since I've used it for years. Never looked elsewhere. I used almost 6 gallons. If you get much smaller than 200-250, I'm not sure there will be much savings. "Materials list". My materials list consisted of what I needed for the weekend or evening and then a run to the store at lunch where I generally forgot something. I'm not a very good planner. I never even drew the tank plan. Just built it from my head.
Final wall finish starts this week. Stone is ordered.

Yipee.. I have a rock and 4 fish in the tank tonight.
