My Zoa Garden

i love the clean look of this tank!!!

just shows that if u plan and execute your design well, even a tank full of "basic" corals looks amazing !!!
well done, i will be doing a tank like this very soon (as zoas are one of my favorites)

bump...nice set up..how did you get all the different zoas in such close proximity??im assuming youre buying them separate and glueing them to a piece of live rock with frag glue..please confirm ..BC if youre not making them yourself youre paying a bundle..i love how you have so many different things right next to each other..well done

Your tank is magnificent! I love it! Wish all those zoas were easily available to me! I myself am trying to do a small simple 10g zoa dominated tank but it's nothing compared to yours.

Hi guys,
Sorry for the late replies, had not been following my TJ here ,
So much has been happening.... Looking at my last photo posted on The RC forum and glancing over at my tank from my comfortable lounge seat a hell of a lot of growth has taken shape. Let me start with saying that I think I've found my ideal LED settings. Taken me over a year to figure this form of lighting out. My blues in my SPS are absolutely insane ATM . And growth on my birdsnests are really kicking off heaps....
IMO SPS take 6 months plus to settle into aquariums and tank life.
My last piece of insight for today is less is more.... I have cut my addition of supplementing drops of this and that to bare minimum. The results speak for themselves in my tank. The reef is a ULN environment , I think I got carried away by supplementing my tank with too many suppliments.

Ha ha ha, I glue and stick zoas all over the place and then remove them and put them in different spots. Running out of space quickly and need to trade for a few new types... However I am honestly not fussed about having the best or rare more collectible types. To me it's about a balance and reality.
I am pleased to share this as my friends who look at my tank would not know what a " eagle eye zoa" is.

The lighting is called Illumagic Blaze , I need to show you my latest LED light that I got from Illumagic it is called Illumagic ComboRay,
I have added some brand new Cyan and 420nm violet to my mix as well as some more Royal Blues. I am already seeing some interesting results with these new colours.
Yes I am a LED junkie :)

Awesome build. What kinda Muratic acid mixture did you use

Thanks! The Muratic Acid is Hydrochloric Acid-
Great for cleaning outdoor patio concrete and stone.
I used a 1 part acid 10 part water. Add the acid to the water. I left the rocks in for about 5 mins , as the bubbles and froth slowed down I diluted the mixture further with a garden hose.

You have an amazing tank, and those are some HUGE zoa colonies. I was wondering do you have any problems with your coral beauty nipping at any corals? I think the dwarf angels add great color to a tank but I always hear of them causing problems by nipping at corals.

Hello Travis, great question mate. I have always purchased my fish as young as possible. IMO this helped greatly in terms of getting fish that have given me no trouble at all. I have kept Flame , Heraldi and Coral Beauty in the same tank as well as an Emperor. All got along and none nipped any Coral.
Such was my confidence once, a friend of mine and I bought a Blue Cheek Angel for his tank. That fish would look at us to see if we were watching and then proceed to eat any coral it could in the tank. My friend still has this fish.

I personally love the coral beauty as my favourite and then a Flame angel.
He has never given any coral any trouble but is more interested in picking algea off the glass and live rock.

I really enjoy your tank very much and one can see the improvements from page 3 to 4 that you were discussing.

As you said it is all about balance and I think your tank is a perfect example.

I see that you went from BB to dark substrate. What made you try that? For better pop like a black backdrop?

At first I thought you were going bare bottom so you could grow a zoa mat floor cover.

Wink wink nudge nudge.
