Mysterious fish deaths are more common now (Flukes)

I want to do the two dosings as recommended. However, I did my two dosings one month apart (I got the flu and then was behind at work).

I know I should do the second dose 5-7 days later.

So, if I did one dose 6 weeks ago, and one dose 6 days ago, should I do a third dose today so I am within the 5-7 days (for eggs I guess?).

I don't want to take any chances on getting my display fish sick.

After you treatment, if you have been running a skimmer, I believe that will put the medication out. Someone please verify.

Also, someone asked a while back if flatworm exit would work. I had a wrasse who had flukes and put him in with FWE for 30mins and nothing happened. So either it doesn't work or takes longer to work. I also did the same thing with Fluke Tabs except only for 15mins and nothing happened.
 
there's a nasty strain of flukes going around now in many of the wholesalers systems...very difficult to eradicate...as per nat'l fish pharm even praziquantel may not do the job completely...
they have a product called " DE LOS" that works but its a 4 week treatment and its very rough on the fish..after 2 treatments with pure praziquantel powder,my clarkii clowns still have this new pest...I am now trying the de los...will report in a few weeks...

How do clams and acroporas react to Prazi pro?

Also what natural predators deal with them, my lfs told me cleaner wrasse and cleaner shrimp will help the fish?? Any experiences with this?
 
My LFS told me cleaner wrasses will not deal with flukes. I had a cleaner shrimp in my tank and the fish didn't go to him to be cleaned.
 
Update: De-Los by nat'l fish pharm completely eradicated the nasty fluke problem...-NO more scratching !
from now on -all my fish will get 4 weeks of this treatment..
 
I have lost so many fish this year and been unable to figure out why. I even took my whole setup apart and cleaned and rebuilt. This must be the answer. I never saw anything on the fish, only behavior changes and within a short time of maybe a day or two the fish was gone.

I am dosing PraziPro in my display tanks with coral, snails, shrimp, crabs, clams, sea hare.

I will post here the results.
 
hottuna; have the wholesalers gotten rid of the nasty flukes with De-Los also? Or is this still a big problem in the supply chain?
 
i just dose prazipro. how long should i wait for the cloudy eye to go way? If it doesn't go way its not flukes then right? I should look into somethin else like bacteriea maybe?
 
tylorarm : as far as I know it continues to be a problem...as a precaution I am treating ALL new fish with delos...the doctor at nat'l fish pharm told me this has been an issue for about 18 months now...
one r/c sponsor in particular has a nasty case of it in his fish system now -pm me if you want details...
back in the 70's when I first started out in this hobby..copper/formalin killed everything....now more resistant bugs are showing up and are more difficult to eradicate..
 
on a side note: be sure to treat this fluke strain asap....if one of the flukes should get into the fishes eye: its over !
my beautiful vanuatu clarkiis had this happen...first the eye got really swollen like popeye...then the fish went blind....HTH...

Can someone tell me if they think it could be flukes?

I'm ready to treat my tank with prazi but am waiting for someone to confirm that flukes could be what I'm up against.

As an update to that thread: I think I can see something in my tang's eye. I haven't caught and dipped the tang as I haven't been able to catch it.

I have my remaining clown in a rubbermaid tub which I'll need to make more permanent if I'm going to treat it in that. Or if this is flukes and I'm treating the main tank might I as well return my clown to the main tank for treatment with my other two fish.
 
well my yellow tang has fluke, did a 2min FW dip and they did not stop poping out but the fish looked very stressed so i stoped.

i read the first few pages but did not see a answer is there any thing that will help treat these like shrimp or a neon goby??

i know that the LFS that i got him had a neon with the group and it seemed like it was cleaning 24/7 and the fish looked good one had a few scratches but all the rest look fine.

im going to get the neon tomorrow and im going to have to dip the fish again and maybe QT in a hypo tank for a few weeks

Hypo, gobies nor shrimp will get rid of flukes. Flukes are usually under the scales or gills which makes its very hard to diagnose just by looking at them.

Prazipro is probably your best solution in getting rid of ich. Shake the bottle vigorously before using to mix the contents well as stated. Watch your pH as it tends to lower it stressing your fish even and lowered pH makes the ammonia in your tank more toxic. Perhaps this may be the reason why some people fish stop eating after dosing Prazipro.
 
I just want to clarify something, when dosing Prazipro on a reef tank, when people says Xenias are not tolerant of it, does that mean it kills them, or are they just unhappy for awhile?
