Guys,
Does this look like a Juvi Male??

LFS said it was... And will develope very well..

Also what do you guys feed your Mystery Wrasses??

He eat yesterday fine.. Mysid, Blood Worms, and Plankton... Tonight he wasn't interested at all.. He was put in yesterday.. Dripped 2.5 hours....

I just picked one of those up today also! Its my first wrasse and I absolutely love him so far. He is by far the coolest fish I've ever owned. Mine has already started picking around at the live rock and was tasting artic-pods, but didn't fully eat any that I could see. However, I'm not too concerned about his eating habits since I witnessed him eating pellets at the LFS before I bought him.

i'm not sure how to tell the difference between male and female.
although i once was told that males have the white bars and females do not.
i've had mine for about 2 years now. he eats everything. seems to be pretty chill too. i've added shrimp, and other smaller wrasses...he ignored them completely. others have had theirs eat shrimp.
i didnt pay as much as 225 but i think they're easier to get here in cali.
very nice looking wrasse though.

2 hours after i added my $150 Mystery Wrasse in my 75 gallon reef he when to town on the Spectrum thera A+ pellets i feed my purple tang and coral beauti with

I've got mine too as a small juvi' ( heard they get really aggressive as they get older and more comfortable in the tank )

They get as aggressive as sixlines.

Got mine for a c-note ( $100 )

Yea I had both a sixline and mystery and I thought the mystery was more aggressive plus they get bigger than sixlines. IMO they are like colorful eightlines. I also dont think there is a dif. between male and female.

Well I saw a advertised female mystery wrasse at a LFS but the only difference is that the female is plain in color with the same body type and markings on the face as a male. The color was a bit on the light brown side?
To my understanding the bold white bars will be gone when the wrasse matures...but there are some species that keep them such as the Vanuatu Mystery Wrasse. As for the ones that come from Marshall Islands i believe those are the ones that lose their bars with age.

If i am wrong please someone chime in...

I think the bars are more of a mood thing because when I had mine it was quite large probably 3.5 - 4 inches and it would have the bars some days and not have them other days but besides there temperment when introducing new fish they are great fish.

My mystery wrasse eats everything and anything. Not sure if I believe this, but I was told from a reputable LFS near me that the ones coming out of Vanuatu have the white stripes....I don't buy that though. Mine has white stripes and I was told he was from the Marshall Islands.

Both have white stripes.
The ones from Vanuatu are coming in much larger and more colorful (maybe related to the size).
They are also much more expensive.

Have yall seen the redish ones on liveaquaria in the divers den section?

They're pretty neat.. I think I want a pink one though since I have a red long finned fairy wrasse, and a flame hawkfish so thats alot of red in the tank..

Guys,
My Mystery is swimming around with his mouth wide open today... Do these wrasses have jaw problems?? He seemed to eat when I fed.... But he cant close his mouth :(

???

how long have you had him? I have seen mine open his jaw momentarily, but never swimming around permanently open. Seems very strange...
