N/P reducing pellets (solid vodka dosing)

I would love to see some before & after pictures from some of those using this product.

I have been running the pellets in a 90 gallon mixed reef since December. Check my home thread for tank details.

I can't tell that they are doing anything only because my nitrates are zero and phosphates 0.01 or less. I had a phosphate problem and put in GFO at the same time as the pellets. GFO has been out of the tank for about a month and phosphates are still nearly zero.

Are these pellets dependent on skimmers like other carbon dosing. Would they do anything for a freshwater tank with no skimmer?

Any pictures of tanks running the pellets? Preferably SPS tank?

Not sure if this really proves anything but here's a little info...

I just upgraded to this tank 5 days ago and I've been running NB Pellets for 5 weeks prior. Before using them I had Cyano issues. Just before I upgraded my system the Cyano was all but gone. 5 days into this tank and everything is looking good.
Here's a link to m y tank build.

they are dependent on skimming. in freshwater you'll probably get to much bacteria and oxygen consumption, although we did not really test this.

-hey Jp nice to hear you here again :).

-Jp , does light shining (refuge light) on the pellets influence them in any way?
I`ve heared somebody asking it on the previous page , but i don`t know the answer...
Could it trigger cyano ?
I got a little bit of it back , after replacing a ATI Bleu special T5 with an KZ fiji purple (witch is more in the red spectrum) , also to get rid of it i turned me refuge light 24/7 but that did worsen it (especialy in the fuge).
Then i switched the light of my refuge out for 4 days , did a waterchange in fuge and display , and the cyano is back gonne.
Now i just light my fuge 12 hours and that seems to be fine :) .

This is probably in this giant thread someplace, but is anyone using GFO in conjunction with these pellets or are most of you just going the pellet route?

I didn`t had any PO4 issues so after 2 months of using the BP`s i removed the GFO , GAC i still and will be using always (yellowing , toxins,...).
If you keep having high PO4 while using the BP`s i would keep the GFO running in your system.

Hi,

I also have light close to my pellets but no cyano problems. In principle cyano's require light and phosphate to grow. In your case there is no phosphate, however, every time you feed your animals there will be traces of phosphate present, allowing them to grow when light is present.

Ciao,

JP

Trying to solve my pH problems I moved the pellets into a fluidizing reactor which I made from some old &/(# buried in closet: decades old Sander I skimmer and a broken Eheim 1262 :lmao:

BTW, it seems that in my case majority of CO2 production happens in tank and not on biopellets. I solved my pH problem by pumping 400 l/h of air through wooden air block into the overflow (~3000 l/h water). Fluidizing pellets probably helps a little bit too as it doesn't trap POM anymore.

Previously pH was 7.65 - 7.95, now 7.95 - 8.20

I had high phosphate about 2 ppm and went with GFO along with the pellets in November. It went to 0.01 ppm or less pretty quick. GFO has been out for about 6 weeks and I'm still at 0.01 or less on an Elos test kit.

-hey tatuvaaj :) ,

Do you know what could triggered the PH drop in your system ?

nice BP set up you have there

-Nice to hear some Phosphates reduction news here :) , did you start using GFO at the same time as the BP`s ?
Else it could also be the GFO who took care of your Phosphate reduction.

So what are the dims on that reactor/ how many bags of pellets are you using?

Setting mine up in a TLF reactor next week, also have a little room that i could set up a jar or vase with pellets in and put the drain hose in from the main tank where it enters the sump, which is also in the same compartment as the skimmer so not sure which is best....

Will keep ya posted..

-It`s the same set-up as i have , and it works well for me.
