N/P reducing pellets (solid vodka dosing)

Thanks. ;)

EDIT: I assume the T5 & NPB costs for you are somewhat relative to the costs we pay for each here in the states?
I'm not sure, probably pretty close (pellets are here $82/liter). But the "problem" is really the cost of electricity :thumbdown I'm paying about 0.1€/kWh

could you show/tell us how you are using that GAC bucket? is it have holse drilled in it for flow through ? or is it pump driven?
It is pump driven, water enters from the bottom. There are a couple layers of coarse filter foam raised about 5 cm above the water entry point.

I'll try to remember to take some photos next time I clean the filter :)

-That`s even more expensive :eek2: then here in the Netherlands , i have to pay 0.07 euro /Kwh (0.1 $/ Kwh) for electricity .
Luckely it isn`t as expensive then petrol (for the car) that we pay 1.4 euro /l (6.5 $/ G) :hmm4: therefore sitting home taking care of my little reef is less expensive then driving my car .....(and better for the enviroment) :D

Hi all,

Question about "Mulm" that builds up inside reactor. Mulm in my Phosban 550 reactor is binding the pellets together.

Is this normal?
Should Mulm siponhed off occasionally?
Is it ok for mulm to be released into tank?

Thanks
Mark

its good for the tank, and i think u should try and get it to s that its just gently tumbling so that it doesn't build up, I shake mine every week for a few seconds to make sure everything is good

Hello everyone im new to this thread hopefully someone can answer my questions!

- Are you guys still dosing liquid vodka with this method?
- How often are you changing out the pellets?
- Do the pellets dissolve?

Thanks in advance!

Are you guys still dosing liquid vodka with this method? some people are (im not)

How often are you changing out the pellets? never.. they get consumed by the bacteria, so an addition of pellets as they are consumed
Do the pellets dissolve? see above..
It would be good to read this thread, and understand what these are and how this works..

Hi coffeenut :) ,

-I dosed at first (before BP`s) only bi-weekly prodebio biodigest , then with the pellets i stopped for 2 month`s with that too, because results of pellets where so good.
-Then after replacing a T5 bleu special with an T5 fiji purple , i got some cyano back on to my sand and rocks.
-Then i back started dosing biodigest one week and the other bioptim after a week or 2 the cyano was going away.
-Also with the swapping of the T5 some of my zoas refused to open , then i started dosing vit. C about 300 mg / 25 G with great results too , i don`t know if vit. C is some sort of a carbon dosing though i guess it is , because it also has C -molecules in it.
I`m gonna try to build off that dosing too , because i hate daily dosages :)

-The pelltes won`t dissolve , they are very slow consumed by bacteria , i have mine now for 5 to 6 month`s in use and they only have shrinked like 30 to 40 %.
-Every 6 month`s or so you have to replace or add half the amount.

Day 5 of using BP's. Have a 250 g reef with about 200 g of actual water. Using a Nextreef reactor, 750 ml of BP's and a Maxijet 1200 for flow. Yesterday came home and some of the corals had browned out a little. Also have been dosing MB7 for about 3 weeks.

Any ideas?

I already have low PO4 and NO3 so I don't need the BP to lower my nutrient levels and I don't want to loose my Fuge or go ULNS but can I use a smaller quantity of BP to raise bacteria for my corals to eat?

Hi guys,

I would like to see tank pictures after you have introduce bio pellets.

I am looking forward to see SPS tanks.

Thx.

anyone thought of maybe using these in a zeovit reactor instead? seems like it might work better than a canister filter you could get that little bit slower flow and break off the mulm a lot easier

IMO, that's a fine plan. :)

I have 1 liter of pellets in a Vertex 1.5 liter Zeo reactor at full flow for a 150G system. Discharge is near my skimmer intake. I pump the reactor once/day, and dose 3 drops of Zeobak directly into the reactor intake daily. I also add several drops of MB7 to the display daily, and once/week I add an ampule of Prodibio Biodigest to the display. Looking for bacterial
diversity. . .

Prior to pellets I was running full Zeo, and prior to that I was dosing Vodka. My NO3 has always been undetectable, and my PO4 (Hannah) has been between 0.0 and .04 for any/all these methods. Coloration is great, as is PE.

I'm currently battling quite a bit of red cotton algae. Not sure what the issue is or how to remedy. I just tested PO4 and it's .01.

:D
