I did something stupid yesterday by leaving my wc valve open while filling it w/ RO water. When I got home this morning my salinity dropped to 1.017!!! I panicked and raised it back to 1.024, but raised it in 3 hours. Has anyone done something like this before? I'm concerned about my corals, but all the polyps were extended when I left earlier. I guess this is what happens when my mind is somewhere else.

I've seen bigger swings, not in my tank but fellow reef club members and other than a little stress (I would imagine) no real adverse effects were seen on the corals what I'd check out would be alk and cal levels, those swings are more likely to cause noticeable issues. One thing I'd watch carefully though would be any starfish as they've seemed to be more temperamental to SG shifts.

I would think that if its a one time thing that only happned for a short period of time, you should be okay.

How are things now?

Nick

a friend just did the same thing... he raised it back up again... alike you... so far no casualties

Naka, I am trying to decide between the vortec pump you have and a tunze 6100. I like the look of the vortec much more, but I'm afraid I'll be missing out on the ability to control it like with the tunze. Do you like your pump? Do you think the lack of a wave controller is a drawback? Any opinions would be great. And, of course, CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW CHILD!

there is a wired controller out now for vortechs and there is a wireless multicontroller coming soon

Thanks everyone. Looks like everything is back to normal. I was very fortunate not to loose any of my corals.

I love my vortech pump. No regrets on not going w/ big Tunze. Although, I have the Tunze nano 6055 coming soon for my right side.

I just ran into this thread today "incredible" the tank looks better by the day and the most impressive addition is your son, fastest growing specimen in this thread value each minute with him, mine is 19 and looking back it all went by really fast.

naka amazing tank, just taggng along with the other replies. Truthfully, really beautiful tank hope to have a tank in the future with the same dimensions.

Oh.. I stopped by naka's house this weekend and his son kept trying to say... "joc... u... lat.. er". WOW. ;)

honestly, its been a month since I was at his place and his corals are growing extremely well. His tank is looking more full. The flow in his tank is outrageous. It's perfect for an SPS tank.

Congrats on your new arrival Naka! Must be an amazing feeling.

On another note..,

Do you feed your BTA's anything. Mine doesn't really like much of anything. I've only had him for a few weeks and I've only tried chopped up mussel and a whole mussel. Some ppl say you don't really need to feed them. Other say feed.

What do you feed?

I'd also like to congratulate you on the birth of your child. Nothing's sweeter than cuddling with a new baby. Makes me want another one.

I'm considering a setup similar to yours, but I won't have the luxury of a separate tank room. Do you think you could achieve all that you have if you had to store all of your equipment inside of the cabinet? Thanks for your reply in advance.

First of all congratulations on being a dad, I’m hope to be one soon! Also great looking tank which I’m also working on getting started once I move into my new home in April. Maybe I missed it but do you have any pic or descriptions of how your flow and filtration system works also your lighting, feeding schedules or just any tips you might have for us who want to set up a tank similar to yours .
