i personally do not have any chalices but am guessing Aussie Watermelon Chalice...?

could be right, could be wrong either way it looks nice

Hmm. . don't know if it's the lighting but I wanted to say Watermelon as well but it looks like yellow eyes with blue and purple base. . .

looks kinda like a gadgets WM but hard to tell from the pics,
looks like the shot was taken in full actinic or maybe like a reefbrite blue led's?

If You/The seller doesn't know the real name, then it looks to me like a purple chalice with yellow eyes and a green rim (Don'tknowtherealnameis purplewithyelloweyeandgreenrimicus) and should probably be priced accordingly :)

If the person you bought it from didnt have a name, then it doesnt have a name, and you can feel free to call it whatever you want. However, you cannot rightly call it by the name of another coral just because it looks like it and expect to sell frags at a premium. Ultimately how much the frags sell for depends entirely on how nice the chalice is, and that is a pretty nice chalice.

Its a beautiful looking chalice ,I would guess maybe a watermelon.and as far as the price i guess ...its if you can find a buyer for that price.awesome!

This.

You can't just say you don't like the name-game and forget about it. He's probably trying to find out the name so he can tell if he paid a good price for it. If you pay a premium price for a frag, you'd like to know what it is you have.

I agree that he may want a name for personal reasons, but the fact is once it leaves the hands of the seller without a name you just can never apply a name to it again. There are probably a million chalices in the wild that look like that, how many of them have names and how can you tell if the named coral is what he has.

It's not like we're talking about different species. They're all pretty much the same species but just different color morphs. Just because some dude says this piece is a, lets say, "Hollywood Stunner" doesn't necessarily make it true. But if it looks like one, then it is, isn't it?

This all has much more to do with pricing than it is about ID-ing something specific.

I strongly disagree and say he has every right to call it by another corals name because it looks like it. These aren't pedigree dogs we are talking about, these are corals from the ocean. If it looks the same then who is to say they aren't the same.

Some people may not like it, but I think they don't want people to realize their LE corals aren't really LE at all and that there are many many more just like it in the ocean just waiting to be collected.

I wasnt addressing the original poster so much as some of the other posters in this thread. And yes, we are dealing with things similar to show dogs. People out there pay BIG to know that their coral is an original "My Miami" or "Goku" they do not pay as big for knock offs, and people do get angry when somebody tries to sell something as a coral that it isnt. My point is, if it didnt have a name when you bought it then take the time to give it your own name. I dont dislike the name game, I like to know what I am buying, but I dont buy things I dont like. In the end I only pay a premium if I think it is a cool looking coral regardless of the name.
