Does anyone have experience with those small "Nanocubes"? If so, what are the pros and cons? Are the smaller ones (6-12 gal) somewhat portable--wondering if I could unplug it, and with a bit of help, take it somewhere and set it right back up? I'm thinking that it would be great to take to meetings, my son's school, etc....

somewhat portable means many different things to us reefers 
Anytime you move a tank expect it to take a good day or two for the debris to settle and a good deal of stress to the inhabitants. I have heard of teachers and such here moving them once or twice a year, but never much more than that.
Keep in mind that you would not be able to drain much of the tank with the rockwork and a rule of thumb is ~ 10lb a gallon. Add to that the fact these tanks are not designed for frequent moves and would leak as you moved them from the sloshing.
All in all a pretty bad idea to move tanks unless needed, stirs up too much too fast, even my fresh water fish would get mad for a few days....
