Nano O Build w/SolarTubes

Hi Nick,

I hear you; and I am a big fan of QT. All the fishes were transferred from my 240, 120, 20. I have some of them for over 2 months; and most of them have been with me since 2007. Really didn't know what caused the out break. They were all eating like pigs :(

Looking back, I should have slowly introduce the fish in rather than dump everyone in at the same time. I do wonder does Ick get transfer from coral?

The white areas on the underside of the coral were rubbing from a neighbor coral. I just got this one back yesterday from my bros' tank. I broke off a piece on the right in the process :D

Back to the drawing board :(

Dennis

Dennis,

My apologies for the misunderstanding on my part....I had forgotten that this was an upgrade from an existing system, and did not realize you'd had these fish for several years prior.

Ich can get transfered in from corals, snails, substrate and/or any other sessile invert or substrate...

Glad to hear that the white areas were not caused by AEFW's....

Hope the restock goes well...

Nick

No worry:D It drive me nut when I see people don't QT their fishes. I didn't realize that corals can host Ick - should have drip the corals from my bros' tank. He did have some ick in his DT.

Ice can also be cause by stress from the transfer IME.

In my previous tank, all my 2 years fishes were transfer from my 150-g to my 300-g and ice strike and I lost almost all my 2 years + collections... :(

Thanks god you didn't name it Steve or Albert :D

I feel your pain :( On my next upgrade; I will have to slowly introduce the fishes - rather than a massive move.

Amazing build. The skimmer is a beast and those rounded corners make me think acrylic might actually look better than glass!

They are reef safe (at least for now) :D All those dead fishes caused an algea bloom. Getting 500ish turbo snails in this Friday; my lawnmower blenny is on strike

Look like the angel getting ready to have some snack on the LPS. What is that thing on your sand bed bro?

Thanks. Acrylic is great; but you have to really careful. Just looking at it the wrong way - it'll scratch :eek2:

ATO + Skimmate = +/- Salinity

ATO + Skimmate = +/- Salinity

Hi Guys, need some help here.

Senario
My skimmer remove about 1 gallon of skimmate a day. I lose about 1-2 gallon of water due to evaporation. Since the number of gallon lose is not constant; depend on which device kicks in first.... the salinity go up and down

Setup
ATO with DI/RO water and a ten gallon of mixed salt water being dosed into the system (dosing about 24 times/day at 157ml)

Question
What is the best way of doing things? I am think about mixing a batch of salt water in a 100 gallons tanks with lower Salinity and just use the ATO. Or is there a better way?

TIA

Dennis

In such large tank, a gallon of skimmate a day will not change the salinity for one. The evap should be just fresh water. In my opinion skimmate should not contain that much salt water in it unless you are skimming extremely wet or you protein skimmer overflow. In a 1000g system take at least 30- 50g on fresh water to notice a salinity change.

My salinity drop to 34ppt in a couple of weeks - if I am being lazy. (Trying to do water change every two weeks)

In two weeks' time that's about 42 gallons of RO/DI water going in the tank. If the ATO kick in before the dosing pump.

I guess the question is a 35ppt to 34ppt range acceptable?

I totally forgot about your balling method. May be you should reduce the amount/day of the dosing unless your Dosing is replace the topoff. Either way, one of those thing need to balance with the # of water being lost due to evap. IMO 34ppt is fine.....

Thanks :D Yo, check out my QT - like my skimmer?

Thought you sold that skimmer already....

Maybe a dialyseas for the salinity :)

I noticed the algae seems to be directly under the solartubes. Maybe they need some shades.
