Wow you already have Coraline Algae growing on the sand bed. Is that purple or Red?

It's been a while. Just a quick update; before I turn this into a fish tank. Beside the PG&E cost; I can't keep my crosshatch from fragging my coral. So, I will be right-sizing to a 140. Good news is my wife is going let me keep the 140 inside the house :bounce3:

How do you like the solartubes? I was thinking to do the same on my 225g. Would 2 14" be enough if centered on the tank. Some T5's for some color also. Tank is looking great...

Thanks :D The solartubes are great but too yellow for me. I have two 290ds (one on each end)
On the left side I used this product and I am did not get better growth than the right side (see pics) but luv lighting effect. BTW, if you want to try the 50% blue LMK. I can send you a 20" X 20" for you to test with the tubes :D

I also supplement the tubes with 2-400 watts MH, 8 - 24watts T5, and 12 -54watts T5. But, then agian my tank is 36". There was a couple of people using solartubes before me; that may chime in.

Thanks for the info, a local reefer is using 3 tubes on his 275g. Definetly yellow without some actinics. He uses 6-5' actinics and looks perfect. Cant wait to do mine. Do you think I could get away with using 2-16" tubes on a 72" long tank(24" deep)? Do you have any pics with just the tubes and no supplemental lighting on? Where are you located?

Dennis,

If you were doing it all over would you go the Sola Tube route again. I am in Morgan Hill, CA and I am considering 3 14" tubes over a 84" tank.

Also did you try the theatrical gels that one guy suggested?

Yes, but I would do three instead of two. The best light out there; especially is made by mother nature :D

I am using ChromatiNet with 30% shade over the tubes. It make it alot less yellow.

please elaborate on which product of Chromatinet are you using and how you are using it (all the time or summer only, hrs/day, etc.)

I will get some this weekend. Kinda debating either to downside and keep this as a FLOWR, or LPS w/Fishes.

Any recent pics?

Yo Steve, here is some pix of my new rimless :bounce3: (those are Tom's kid :D )

Landfill, CA?????? Foster City????? Curious cause I am relatively close and could expect the same type of sun you are receiving.

I just did the math on your tank......680 ga!!!! That is a monster. I saw your mention of considering downsizing and I thought maybe I would make you an offer. That is when I did the math.... then the vision of my wife with my shotgun flashed before me....Nevermind.

But I think I can safely assume that on my "little" 300GA tank 3-14" tubes would be sufficient.

Would CF Atinics cancel out the yellowness.

This is what the website claim:
"ChromatiNet Blue shade cloth reduces the spectrum of red and far-red light and increases the blue light spectrum, creating a compact plant with deeper green foliage. The grower can grow and ship more quality plants per square foot using only sunlight. In some varieties it can postpone flowering."

It is a shade cloth made for green house. It come in different spectrums (blue and red) to block and enhence color. Also, it has shading from 90% down to 30%. I use a 30% shade (20" X 20" piece) to cover the bottom of the solartube during the summer time.

I saw this on a trade show awhile back; and got some sample. I like the color; not too sure it is truth 460nm as they claim. But, it is free :D

Mmmm :sad2: looks like they discountinue this color?

Yes, Foster City :D You will get much more sun than I do. I didn't know the Solatube® eChoice™ now Eligible for 30% Federal Tax Credit - Wow?

Now, all we need is to have the HAPPY Bill pass :D

:lolspin:

I was using VHO, then switch to T5. I would think CF would be enough.
