nano zoo tank Question.

i wouldnt get that brand tho...thats the odyssea brand which is known for breaking down 3 months down the road and for starting fires lol.

watts per gallon isnt a good rule to go by. for mh, something around 100-150 would be fine i'd think.

for pc, i'd say like 150 or higher at least

i have a 24 inch 110 watt pc lightin from Jebo (same brand as Odyssea) and would not reccomend it, the reflector is just a piece of stainless steel not very reflective at all and it gets burning hot, plus the light output is poor. as soon as i get the money im getting t5's.

Post in the zoa forum your question because you might get a better answer. You will probably get all types of lighting choices from PC to T5 and MH.
Things to consider: zoa only, cost and can you DIY?

I have a 10 gallon with only 60 watts power compact and i have all sorts of stuff in there doing great, zoo's montipora's. shrooms... i know zoo's dont need a ton of light, although even 48 watts on 15 gallons isn't much. 175 w metal halide is alot of light for that size tank imo

I agree. I have an aquapod with 2x27 pc and my zoos are doing great. Some of them are almost pestlike in their growth rates.

people waaaaay over estimate the lighting needs of soft corals sometimes, 64-72 watts of pc would be plenty. im not sure how t-5's compair but i cant imagine they would need as much as you guys are implying. anyone who says zoos need mh took their crazy pills this morning

I am no expert ..that’s for sure. But this MH requirement for a NANO zoo tank is just not correct and usually comes from people without nano experience. Actually I feel MH lights have no place around a nano tank due to heat and evaporation problems. Tank stability is just too hard to maintain with this working against you. I will agree that PC's are no where near the ultimate lighting, however they work just fine. T-5 lamps (HO's of course) are likely the optimum light source for nanos.

With that being said.....here is a pic of my 12 gallon cube with 96 watts of PC. My set up is 2- 24w 50/50's and 2-24w actinic's. Started out with frags and now I give frags to my LFS for credit. My zoo's are growning like weeds and keep their color pretty well.

Here is a pic, feel free to give it a click......
