Nanocube 28 HQI Stand

Hi. I ordered a Nanocube 28 HQI w/ stand about 3 wks ago, but haven't been able to fill it as of yet, due to the seeming instability of the stand. I'm positive I put it together correctly (though the instructions left a lot to be desired), but there is some side to side "give", which is obviously a red flag. Are there any other cases such as mine? Can you offer me any advice on this?? I'd really like to enjoy my purchase asap!

Thanks.

Eric

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the email, I definitely understand your concern, I own the 24 gallon stand and was A little skeptical also cause of the little bit of give that there was, but I have filled my tank and in fact also just recently moved it to the corner of my room by sliding it ( I wouldn't recommend doing that though... too scary!) I would recommend that that you have it placed on a flat and even surface,
and just for precautionary measures double check all your fittings and screws make sure they are tight, last but not least make sure that you have all the correct parts and that they are secure. I personally went over it a few times before I placed my tank on the stand. If you have any further questions regarding the stand or your set up, please feel free to contact us at 714.385.0080 or you may also contact JBJ at 310.672.0480.

I hope this helps you, enjoy your tank!

Hi. thank you for your response. I'm glad you can personally relate to my concern. I did make sure to have the stand on a level surface. I've actually been going crazy trying to figure out how to remedy this problem. I did end up taking out some of the screws/fittings to double check that they were secure, and thanks to this, a couple are now "washed" and no longer have any holding power. Frankly, I'm ready to toss the thing--I would never feel comfortable using this stand as it is or was, and I truly believe I received a defective product. I will call the number provided, thanks for that.

I have the JBJ HQI 28 with the new style stand. I was very skeptical about the stability of the stand. Here's what I did. As I was assembling the stand I used wood glue to secure all of the dowels. Then I went to Home Depot and bought some angle braces and used these to reinforce all of the joints. The stand does still have some movement but I know it's not coming apart. I have also run a Vortech MP40W pump on pulse mode in this tank for almost 2 months with no problems. It does wiggle a little bit but it will be fine. IMO JBJ could have done a little more in the quality department on these stands, it is by far the worst I have ever owned.

Thanks for your post. I too tried screwing on corner braces, but like with your stand, even after that, the stand still had some sway. This to me is absolutely unacceptable--is it too much to freakin' ask to have a solid stand underneath that tank?? And to think of all the investment (both time and money) that will ultimately go into it--we deserve the peace of mind. JBJ should answer to this. The stand for my 12g was shoddy too, but not this bad.

But, I must say that Marine Depot has been really cool about this--great customer support (thanks, guys), as they are sending me a replacement. Ofcourse I have to disassemble the old one and ship it back (another 2 weeks before I can finally fll the darn thing!) before they'll send the new one. Based on what you report though, I wonder if it will have the same issues...

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the reply's, Robert did mention to me yesterday that you had called and I am glad to hear he took care of it for you. This new one should be better, but again if there is a problem with it let me know we'll get it taken care of for you, no worries there.
Let me know when you send the other unit back to us and if you have a tracking number. I can possibly speed up the replacement being sent to you.

Thanks again!

Walter

Thanks guys--got the new stand on Monday. Although it does actually have the same issues, I'll just have to reinforce it, and it'll be fine I'm sure. Thanks for your excellent support though, and for expediting the new stand.
