nanostream 6025 rattling problem

Hi, I have a 2 week old nanostream 6025 that produces a rattling noise non-stop when turned on. I tried to readjust the propeller magnet piece several times but no luck. I know this isnt normal since I purchased 2 of these and the other one is dead silent when on. Any advice?

I have this problem too. I have 2 brand new ones, that i just put in my tank, and they both make this "chattering" noise as well... i thought they were supposed to be silent, any ideas/fixes?

When they are brand new they make some noise, wait a few days. It is normal for them to chatter on start up. It can take as long as 20 seconds for the impeller to get the right rotation direction, that is exactly why we say no wavemakers, they rattle every time the y start and this is hard on the impeller, limiting starts to once every 15 minutes calculates out to a roughly 5 year life. If it rattles while running that would not be normal but while the rotation direction is correcting they will make noise. You got lucky on the one that is dead silent and I have no answer for that, but the majority of them, dependent on start voltage will rattle for 2-10 seconds with 20 being the extreme in voltages lower than 115 or higher than 125..

I am aware of the rattling when it starts up but I am talking about the noise still occurring after its been running for a day.

If it has been in use for at least 3 days send it to me and I will get it taken care of ASAP. Our turnaround is usually less than 24hrs after receipt.

I have to tell you I had rattling also although the problem was entirely my fault. In my excitement to get them in my tank I neglected to read the directions and did not place the small plastic pads in the corners of the magnet. Once fixed they ran virtually silent.

Beware.....damn those magnets are strong! I got pinched twice and those babys hurt......

Good Luck, Bill

After one day of continuous running mine still has that "chatterring" noise though a little better, I will give it a few more days.

The odd thing is the very first night I place the 6025 in the tank, it ran smooth and quite, but by the second night it has became quite loud.

I too tried to re-adjust it in the tank but it did not stop the rattle.

I do not have it on the a timer and I put the rubber feet on the maget holder.

I will give it a few more days to see if it quites back down. Its in my bedroom so I hope it does.

this noise problem thanks for posting i was ready to buy two nanostream but i hate noise big time. i really like the way they look i may have to get eheim ball.

I got home from work and noticed the "chattering" noise was almost gone. I also moved the pump a little in the tank and noticed if the pump was very close to the corner it got loud because flow at one side of the intake was somewhat impaired. My guess is that the intake should be as even as possible all around to avoid even the slightest imbalance at the prop.

The problem is very simple in transport or due to impacts the shaft moves slightly as it is only anchored on one end and it has to be done this way. If you run the pump the centrifugal force realigns the shaft in just a few days time. I have been running a couple now and I had the same issues and they progressively got quieter and at 2-3 days in they were much quieter.

i have 2 one is dead silen the other has rattlesd for about 2 weeks. Although the one that rattles did not come with the little pads and is running with out them. Anyway to get the rubber pads roger?

I can certainly send you a set, just PM me an address. If it still rattles let me know. I promise we will take care of any issues anyone has with the Nano Streams regarding noise. I know it isn't what most people want to hear but until we know more about why a small percentage of these pumps is making noise it will be necessary to send them in. I spoke at length with Mr. Tunze about these issues today, it does seem that the majority of them are running properly and without noise issues. We are still investigating why some seem to make noise, in a few weeks we may have an answer and just be able to send a part but so far we cannot find a specific issue that would cause noise and often it is just a matter of giving them a few days of continuous use or moving the pump a bit to avoid reverberation off surfaces of the aquarium. If you have a pump that is noisy after some days of use, I welcome you to send it in, we will thoroughly test it and make sure it is returned quiet, I wexpect we would need 48hrs with each pump sent in. Please include a note describing the problem, I will include a small gift for your troubles-

I'll will give it a few more days, after that I will be happy to send mine in to help get this issue solved for everyone have a problem.

Shouldn't be too bad of a turnaround, seeing that you guys are in Austin and Im just north of Dallas.

Mine also made noise for 4 days. I was going to pull it out and see if I could make sure everything was tight. As soon as I moved the outer magnet a hair to pull the powerhead out it stopped making noise. Now quiet as a Maxi-jet. So try moving the outer magnet a bit and see if that helps anybody out.

i was wondering if the Nano Streams are using a washer between the magnet and the bottom of the shaft, and if that washer is tight fitting or loose against the shaft... because both of my Nano Streams are making a faint rattling noise that is very similar to what my modified MaxiJet made when i put a nylon washer that was too loose for the shaft... i couldn't find a washer with a small enough hole... i'm not sure if the fix to the problem would be as simple as a tight fitting washer...

There is no washer, however a tighter fit of the rotor maybe the solution, it is odd though that most units seem to work fine and the parts are made by injection molding which should be fairly consistent and we use all new plastic and the best we can get, name brand from Bayer, BASF or GE depending on the need.

just an update after about 1.5 days mine have seemed to quite down considerably, i have to really listen to hear them... just gotta get the 2nd one going now.
