Naso Tang Food

Purchased a NASO from LFS 2 weeks ago. Eats flake very well but will not touch macro algae. Have tried red, green, and brown sheets as wells as Nori. Considering trying romaine. How do I do this? Do I just clean it and put it in fresh? How about stalks or just leafs? Fish is healthy and doing well with flake I know however that they need additional access to vegetation as herbivores.

Don't feed it lettuce. There's nothing nutritional in it for your fish. Soak nori sheets from the asian market in garlic and problem solved! And the fish isn't a herbivore, it's an omnivore...you need to feed him meaty stuffs too. Mine always loved mysis shrimp.

Try shredded nori, they seem to respond to the food in the water column earlier than they do the clip in the tank.

Your LFS should sell it! Kent makes one, plus a few others. I haven't used it in awhile to remember the brands...but you can definitely buy it at your fish store.

throw the green kind on a clip and swap out as neccessary. took mine about 2 weeks to start eating it

If it's eating flake well, get some flakes that are high in seaweed content. I wouldnt worry about forcing it to eat what you think it needs, if it's eating well I'd be content.

My blonde NASO loves mysis but when i put nori in there she picks at it but doesnt eat to much. The others eat all of it though. Sometimes they just do not care for it. its much like a salad versus a steak dinner.

I have a N. elegans male...and a N. literatus female.

My blonde male eats ONLY Nori and Formula 1 and 2 pellets. He will not eat any frozen seafood (squid, clam, mussel, shrimp, octopus) or flake. I've had him 3 years now.

My black female eats absolutely everything I've every tried.

I suppose this means nothing more than every fish is slightly different. I figure it is important to get as many different kinds of food in there as possible for nutriative variety.

It is depend on the fish. You just have to keep trying. When I got mine, he eat only brine shrimp. I got him to eat nori by cut nori in to small piece.

Almost two months later, he start eat sea food mix. This happen by accident. I went out of town for 2 days. When I came back and feed the seafood mix, he just start eating seafood mix.

Now he eat everything that I put in to the tank. Good luck with the fish.
