Nassarius and Cerith snails

So a month in on the tank and it looks as if the cycle is complete. Did my first water change today. Next step is a small CUC. Ive decided whats best would be some nassarius and cerith snails. Anyone know what LFS are carrying them? I only need about 10 snails, so im trying to not order online.

Any other suggestions on a good critter for the CUC is welcome!

Thanks!

I like an assortment of snails in my system. I'd say Pet's Warehouse, but they only seem to have turbos and Nassarius. The new store in Westbury, Aquarium Village, on Old Country Road may be a bit of a hike for you, but I was there yesterday, and they had Cerith, Margarita, turbo, Nassarius, Astrea, Cowrie and both queen and fighting Conch. I'd avoid the Conchs for a tank your size.
Closer to home though, you should probably call that new store on 231 to see what he has on hand.

Went to PW today and picked up 5 astrea snails and a pep shrimp.

Larry, since i was out that way i ran to aquarium village to see if i could pick up some nassarius and go figure, theres a sign on the door saying they ran out for a delivery! -_-

Aqua hut usually has nassarius snails in stock, last time i needed some they were the only ones around that had them.

Most of the nassarius I've seen in there have been the local Illyanassa. You can get those for free from any creek at low tide ;)

Interesting!

Hey Bill, as of now in my 28g i have 5 astreas and a pep shrimp for a couple baby aiptasia. I was going to go with 6 nassarius snails for the sand bed and be done with the CUC for now. Any suggestions on anything else that would be good for my tank? Going to be a mixed reef, 2 inch SSB and 27lbs of LR.

Thanks!

Other than the Nassarius, the various sand mopping cukes are also good for cleaning the sand bed.

"Sticky @ the top of the home page listing local stores on LI.

Went to the home page. The Sponsors are all online shops. The ads at the top of the home page are all the ads from the sponsors page. Checked out all the drop down arrows. Not happening. Tried 3 different web browsers - just in case.

Thanks, Larry. I did find it eventually. When Vinny said "sticky" I was thinking of an actual link, not a BB sticky. Not myself this week - don't want to burden anyone so I won't talk about it. I was reading the thread, and it seems there have been additions and notes where stores have closed. Being in Huntington, there's no excuse why I don't hit up some shops in eastern Nassau since I've gone as far as Philly in search of goodies.

Here's the webpage with the club membership info. You can easily sign up online via pay pal or at the next meeting. Meetings are typically the first Friday of the month in Commack, except for next month. Next month is our annual conference NERAC. It's whole day conference with 4 speakers, lunch included, at Atlantis Marine World for all of $35. Great way to spend a day, and venue that can't be beat by any other hobby conference ;) There is also a dinner banquet for $50 after the conference. Best banquet food (it really is good food) that I've ever had at any conference, hobby or otherwise, and it's in front of the reef tank :)

I guess I'm "IN"?

LOL, Bill. I didn't mean LIRA - I meant this online club ;)

I keep looking to sign up, but my schedule is packed and I can't make any meetings. I guess this means I have to stop doing non-reef stuff, huh? Soon, I promise... Soon.

I am a mentor in a program for HS kids on the weekends. Can't do NERAC all day. I may come in the AM, but I'd have to leave just about 11:15 so I can make it to Brentwood in time. I would love to, though. Same thing with LIRA meetings. Fridays are tough for me, but I'll figure something out.
